What makes any scout qualified? Getting it right 5% of the time?

Well, generally you would expect a scout to have some sort of background and credentials in the game of hockey that extends beyond broadcasting. Most scouts are either former players, coaches, learned the scouting game from their father, etc.

Scouting is an 'old boys club' kind of thing. As long as you can talk the hockey language and rub elbows with the right guys you can get a job. It's not something where you need credentials as far as I can tell. Particularly at the Jr hockey level.

lol at the one and only comment in artcle.

Is that "good for you" or "go **** yourself"?

Yeah, can't see someone hired by a competitor of the Oilers' junior squad being allowed to keep a job at such a major partner of the Oilers. Probably a fair bit of talk of potential teenage prospects that the Oil Kings would rather not share with their competitors.

I mostly liked Tencer (except for his holier than thou rants about Lance Armstrong). CHED sports radio has been a joke since he switched to afternoon talk.
Not surprised he's moving on. He is far too smart to waste his life babbling on the radio.
