According to Rotoworld, Vancouver is a possibility as to where he ends up.

I would LOVE this guy. He would come relatively cheap, could slot into the top 6 and give us a decent scoring winger. His shootout skills will be something we have sorely missed in the past, too.

Would you guys sign him to a 1 year, 1.5 million deal?

Would love to get him on that contract but I'd imagine he's looking for more money and term.

nope....not happen

@News1130Sports: The #Canucks are not in on free agent Damien Brunner who is in Switzerland working out - waiting for NHL offer.

plus we have young player to complete for spots which would be a better choice and brunner could just be Leino 2.0

I'm sure he's LOOKING for that, but the fact that he's still out there without a contract might mean he has to take a hit on either term or money, or both.

Hmm, never saw that tweet. Not sure any of our young players could fill in and be as productive as Brunner would be. Ideally, Jensen could be that second line RW, but is he ready? I think he's close, but probably a year away yet.

Brunner has actual skill, no Leino here. Leino had 1 good season riding Briere and Hartnell's coat tail the entire year. I would love this guy (Brunner). Don't see it happening though.

Yeah...
I think the Canucks are saving caproom...
For that bargain defenseman.
Gillis did say he wants to sign one more.

I'd dismiss this, except it is St.James. She has excellent sources and she doesn't speculate a lot.

I am now wondering if someone on the Canucks didn't pass their physical or something? I know Booth isn't ready, but I imagine they already expected that. Brunner might just be added depth?

I agree with others that Raymond seems like a better option. I also agree the team should be developing Jensen or another rook, instead of Chasing after Brunner.

I actually quite like Raymond but Brunner is easily an upgrade over him. I've been looking at Brunner for a while and would be quite happy of we got him.

Wings fans disagree. We consider her more of a hack than anything. She throws players that he doesn't like under bus and pimps players she likes.

She's very, very biased.

She reported that Cleary had signed that deal with Flyers. Seems like it never happened, only PTO. Then Cleary denied it too. Then St. James STILL said that deal was in place but Cleary wanted back with Wings.

As for Brunner, it doesn't seem to be as much about money as it's about getting (maybe guaranteed?) spot in top6.

The is no doubt that Brunner would be more productive than any of our young guys this, and probably next, year.

But it seems the Canucks are committed to taking that one step back in order to develop our young guys.

With Booth not ready, Jensen has the best chance, IMO, of getting that shot.

Really doubt he'll take less than 3mil and we don't have that take of cap space. Plus honestly no guarantee he's an upgrade over Higgins or a healthy Booth. Sure he has great offensive skill but since we'll likely be stressing a 2 way game, Higgins has him beat there... a healthy Booth could be quite productive (tho health is a huge issue). If we could unload his contract somehow then i would take Brunner over Booth (due to the fact he just can't seem to stay healthy if nothing else) but since that isn't an option and we live in a salary cap era, not much discussion there.

Also if its just SO skills we're looking for, we already have a specialist in Santorelli. Just stash him on the 4th line if we figure we might need him and he cost league min. Add Kesler and Burrows with him and we might actually win a few more SOs this year...

Brunner would probably sign for less on a team where he's guaranteed top 6 time. He wants to establish that he's legit, and he wouldn't get that on a checking line with the Canucks.

So are those younger players better? Or are we now resorting to the inevitable fact that we just aren't that good anymore and are likely a bottom-end playoff team at best and would benefit more from giving spots to develop younger players than trying to get better and compete this year?

How would Brunner on a 1 year, 1.5M contract be anything like Leino 2.0? :shakehead

I believe the Leino comparison was in regard to output, not contract. But carry on.

I'd say with the injury concerns with Booth, the loss of Raymond and the fact that we are a team that is going to struggle to score goals, Van is one of the few teams that I'd think Brunner has almost a top 6 guarantee.

Sedin Sedin Kass
Burr Kes Brunner
Higgins Shroeder Hansen

Higgins is the only guy who would maybe deserve a shot on that 2nd line...

The situation for Brunner is that the Red wings offered him a 2.5 mio / 4yrs contract (or something like that) ...

Brunner, wanting to get more (in fact his agent !) wanted to check the open market.
The red Wings accepted ... and suddenly hired Alfredson for "big dollars" compared to the Brunner contract, but in fact ... using the Brunner cap space (with the Cleary ?).

So Brunner was left without spot.

He had 26 pts in 44 games. Being the best scorer for the Red Wings in Playoffs. Those stats do not include game winning SO goals.
27 years old, Rookie year in NHL. He was a defensive liability in the frist games ... has improved game after game and his limit is by far not reached.
He went through a drought of scoring ... which is included in his stats.

He had problems with the Swiss team he usually plays with ... unclear contract. And will not play in Switzerland this year.

In other words he has a terrible agent.

I believe that he is ready to get low dollars for a year.

If I was a team, i would offer him a low dollar yrs contract with an option at the end of the year !! because his upside is truly superior to what he delivered so far.

I'd take him on a carbon copy of the Cleary contract, not anymore though and play him with Kesler and Burrows
