Adam Henrique was a Devils 3rd round pick.
A 3rd is a great return for a depth piece.
NJ has found later round talent like Jesper Bratt, Miles Wood, Kerfoot, Coleman, Butcher
Alot of teams try to get depth pieces with only a 5th, 3rd has a better chance at being something than a later pick.
Ok yes their have been good 3rd Round picks, but still they’re overvalued. There have also been many 3rd Round Picks who end up as nobodies.

Yeah usually they bust but i like NJs chances with 2 3rds this year, could even move 2 3rds to get another 2nd rounder.

Trocheck was a 3rd rounder, Point also.

All picks have value, sometimes guys work out and sometimes they don’t, a 3rd for Lovejoy is a great trade for Jersey imo.

This trade is not bad as long as Nill still plans on adding a forward and not a low level one. I’m not interested in paying the price for Zuccarello. NY will want a 1st and prospect. Don’t think he is worth that. 2nd and someone in the AHL sure. I would take Nyquist but once again not worth a 1st. And yes I rate Nyquist higher as he can create. Zucc is really more of who he plays with. I would love stone and would offer a ton for him.

Based on what I've heard from Rangers fans, Zuccarello plays a huge part of driving their offense and creating chances for whatever line he is on/whoever he is with

I have no complaints about acquiring Lovejoy. Other than I wish we could've found a slightly better D man but those guys don't seem to exist anymore.

I thought it was a buyers market? I mean if you listen to fans of teams that are buying at the TDL....

If seen nothing that reminds me that this is a buyers market. It never is at the TDL.
Not for dmen , buyers market for wingers , could change either way depending on who ends up staying with their teams

Definitely would not have been happy about giving up a 3rd for Lovejoy.

And yes I know the odds of the 3rd rounder making it to the NHL.

I bet those odds are certainly better than the odds of someone drafted in the 6th round, making it to the NHL.

Jesper Bratt being one of the rare few to beat those odds, of course. :naughty:

Please list off all the failed 3rd round picks along with the hits. I wonder which list is longer.

Again, nothing wrong with the Devils grabbing the 3rd for a rental.. good trade for them. But to say this is some massive overpayment is funny.

Agreed. 3rd round picks don't have much value. Cross-posting this here for the main-boards:

This isn't very scientific, but I did a quick analysis of 3rd round picks from 2004-2013 (long enough for players drafted here to no longer be prospects):

iUHK9DI.png

Less than 30% of all 3rd round picks play 100 NHL games or more. Most of these end up being journeymen or depth players who aren't sure they'll even have a job after each offseason.

"Notable" picks here are players who became and still are "high-impact" players (top 6 F, top 4 D, #1G). Marchand and Letang are really the only notable skaters, with a handful of quality goalies that are typically voodoo picks (Quick, Bishop, Andersen, Murray, and a few others).

Let’s see Shero try to rebuild this dumpster fire he created.

Hopefully NJ fans are realizing he’s an awful GM or are people still fooled by the fact the Pens somehow won a cup with him as GM 10 years ago?

Polak blocked a shot last game and may be hurt. Dallas does not have anyone that can take his PK minutes. Carrick is useless. I think this is a good trade for Dallas

Don’t listen to the perennial loser mentality fans that think a third is better than an incremental upgrade for a team looking to actually win something. Lovejoy will stabilize a third pair and kill penalties. Pair him with a mobile young defender and he will mentor the young player as well. He is exactly the kind of low risk add a team should make for the playoffs. Acquiring him will also send a message to the other players that the management believes the team can make the playoffs in a crowded field. Imagine trying to win now. So many loser mentality fans on HFBoards. Best of luck to the Stars.

So what if they do. Unless ownership is unhappy it won’t matter.

Other than picking up Hall he hasn’t really rolled the dice on anything big. He hasn’t handed out any ugly UFA deals and he hasn’t lost patience with a slowly rebuilding team. He clearly whiffed on something in PIT but maybe he learned something along the way.

I don’t think so most of them are calling him a God for getting a 2nd for Boyle and a 3rd for Lovejoy. I will say it’s good returns on rentals and he seems to usually win trades, but for whatever reason the team hasn’t improved much. Feels similar to the Stars when Nill started made tons of good moves and would always ‘win the offseason’ but the team is always middling.

Welp, with today's results in the books here's hoping Nill seriously has one or two more trades in mind.

Eight goals scored, total, over their last five games. Only one win, naturally, and they've been shut out in three of those games including today.

I swear if he makes another trade for a d-man now, I'm gonna lose it.

Well that was fast. Another shutout lost must've forced his hand. Good.
