McDavid, Mackinnon and Kucherov. Nobody will score over 50 though unless the rules become even softer

McDavid for sure. His shot looked significantly more threatening this season than ever before.

I think Mackinnon has an outside shot too. Don’t know if I see anyone breaking over 41

If we're talking somewhat soon in their careers:

High chance: McDavid, MacKinnon
Likely chance: Point, Debrincat, Kucherov
Lesser chance: Zibanejad

I voted for the first two groups.

I think if LD gets a long term injury one year than McDavid will hit 50+ due to an increase in carrying the offensive load. But he could also just decide one year that hes going to score 50 / pass less and hell probably do so with ease.

TIL that Ovie is the only player to score more than 50 in the past decade. And just barely. Granted 3 of those were partial seasons, but still.

It doesn't seem like scoring is that far down, but it seems 50 goals is arguably harder to hit right now than it was during the DPE or any other era since expansion. Scoring is just a bit too spread up and down the lineup. Even in the DPE you could have a Bure type player just running wild out there as a solo act, but we don't have anyone like that in the league now.

Draisaitl hit the 50 goal mark, but the rest of your post is true

i've never ever thought about this before but the 41 curse does seem legit

career high seasons for daniel sedin, kesler, pavelski, bill guerin, claude lemieux, ray ferraro, mike ridley, dave christian, and foligno's dad

rick nash was a very close call, but more than a decade after his rocket-winning career year, hit 42 goals

Inspired by morbid 27 years curse of rock-stars dead at age of 27
RIP Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse etc.
27 Club - Wikipedia
"A study published in the British Medical Journal in December 2011 concluded that there was no increase in the risk of death for musicians at the age of 27"

Probably not a statistical anomaly, its just cool that "big-3" all have 41G career high (kind of low for messianic types)

I think the first part of the decade was the hardest, but at the same time, there was a lack of high end goalscorers outside of Ovechkin from after Stamkos' leg injury until the last couple seasons, and Covid ruined near-certain 50+ goal seasons by Pasta and Matthews last year and Matthews this year. I don't think at this point 50 is any harder than the DPE or the 2008-lockout time period.
