[Note to all: Selection window has been reduced from 24 hours to 12 hours for rounds 3 through 7.

Cup’s Early 7 Round Mock Draft.

*** Please be sure to read the below entirely as it is very important we all understand the rules.***

The Rules:

Each GM has 24 hours to select or their turn will be taken for them based on a three post consensus pick conducted by other GM’s. If you know that you will be unable to pick send your pick to the GM just ahead of you or the GM just after you or myself.

Trades are allowed. Make them as realistic as possible or suffer the wrath of fellow GM’s criticisms.

Participation Stipulations (Very Important):

You must frequent this message board at least twice a day, if you can’t commit to that, please do not sign up. Most mocks take up to two months to complete and there is nothing worse than having to take over for half the GM’s after the third round because they drop out.

One team per poster allowed based on first come first served and team loyalties. (Example “If a poster with an Ottawa Senators loyalty wants LA Kings and then a poster with LA Kings loyalties wants the Kings, I will give the team to the L.A. fan in most cases)

All mock draft GM’s must have HF’s Private Messaging turned on and their inbox/outbox emptied so you can be contacted. Since this mock will have trades it is very important to communicate with other GM’s via private messages as well as being able to notify the next GM that it is his turn to select in the draft.

Well...since there doesn't seenm to be any starting point....may as well get it started...we can fill the other spot over the next day one way or another, and I'm not going to change my mind.

The Philadelphia Flyers are pleased to select .....from the London Knights of the OHL, Patrick Kane.

No Turris for the Flyers?

You hafta love people questioning why Turris isn't first overall - seen him play lots have all of you? Tony - you get over to Burnaby from Austria for some of his home games?;)

At McKeen's we have Kane first overall for a reason - he's the best player in this draft IMO. Turris was a consideration, but what team wouldn't like a wonderfully skilled winger capable of scoring 100 points some day soon? I can see Kane being an 80-point NHL scorer within three years - Turris will be just getting accustomed to the league at that point (I see him playing two years in college), and four years after that he'll be getting ready for unrestricted free agency (think he wouldn't mind playing in his hometown of Vancouver?)

Kane has the ability to have 400+ points for the teams that drafts him before he's old enough for free agency..I don't think the same can be said for Turris. Mind you...when he's 26 he may be a slightly better player than Kane.

no my reasons for turris to philly would have been that the flyers seem to have a small stud right winger in giroux already and they have some ncaa players in the system so turris would be a great fit. this wasn't meant as critique, just to start a discussion :)

Discussion is what this place is all about isn't it?:)

The Flyers also have skilled centers in Carter and Richards..some would wonder why would they need another? You need four wingers on the top two lines...Kane, Gagner, perhaps Giroux some day, perhaps Downey...

I see Kane being a top-line winger in the NHL before Giroux and Downey, and given that Philly will be adding some front-line players in free agency more than likely with the cash they'll have freed up, I'm sure Snider would like to make an impact sooner rather than later to keep the fan base appeased. Same goes with Holmgren if he is still the GM at draft time - he'll want to rebuild Philly sooner rather than later.

If Philly can add two good forwards and a couple of defencemen in the offseason for example, plus adding Kane to the lineup and having Biron/Nittymaki in nets by the look of things..the Flyers could get good in a hurry.

I think Kane will play in the NHL next season.

A strong group down the middle would be something Philly could use to build a strong forward core around. Carter - Turris - Richards would be pretty nice for that. And they could still convert one of the guys to wing if a guy like Matsumoto pans out...
Of course, if you see Mike Richards as a full-time top two-line centre, the pick of Kane makes perfect sense.

So if LA doesn't show by tomorrow @ 8am est who do we think they should select?

My Pick is RW Alexei Cherepanov. Even though they could us a defensive prospect AC has just too much skill and flair to pass up for this rebuilding franchise.

Lombardi would probibly go with Turris is my bet.

Richards is debatable...but I like him as a top six forward in the NHL moreso than Downie and Giroux; more well rounded at least. i think he can be a solid second-line center in the future.

What about Umberger...you consider him a fourth line center? IMO with Richards, Carter, Umberger and Downie in the system center isn't a huge priority with the first overall pick, especially if the Flyers figure that Kane is the best player. Philly will also get a crack at at least one of Patrick White, Veilleux, Hamill, Moller, etc. with their other first round pick if they so choose - there are about ten centers rated in the 20-40 range.

At the end of the day tho..the main reason I picked Kane is because I think he'll be the best player. That's the best, and most frequent, reason for picking a player.

The Los Angeles Kings are proud to select...from the Burnaby Express of the BCHL, forward Kyle Turris.

We were looking at a bunch of different guys(Alzner, Cherpanov, Voracek). We were also thinking about trading down but we could not pass up on Turris and his potential. Some might think this is a risk because Turris plays in the BCHL but Turris has great potential and is considered one of the best goal scorers available in the 07 draft. He is also one of the youngest players available in the draft and we are confident that he will become a special player for us.

Hey PB, want to trade me Atlanta's first.

Philly and Buffalo's 2nd and Van's 4th.

What do you say?

Sure; I PM'd you and Cup about this just now.

St. Louis' pick at 17th overall, in exchange for picks at 31, 60, and 116th overall.

Since this draft isn't loaded with top-end talent, but rather is pretty deep with solid second-line forwards and second-pairing defensemen, I'm thinking that I can get a guy at 31st overall that's probably going to be every bit as good as whomever I'd have selected at 17th overall.

I still have two frst-rounders, and now I've got ten picks in the top 116. I'll take that in any draft year.

Mr Bugg and me made a deal:
To Edmonton: 3rd overall pick
To Columbus: 11th and 16th overall

So Edmonton is on the clock.
