Fans always speak as if they are the ones making the decisions for their teams.

"Nashville will not take a defenceman" -- they draft Ryan Parent

"Edmonton does not need a goalie, we have JDD" -- they pick Dubnyk

And so on.
I'll put $20 down right now that if Kessel is on the board when the Blues pick at 1, 2 or 3, he's still there after the Blues have made their pick.

You are entitled to say what you think. Let it be known that it is your strong opinion. All I'm saying is that you are in no position to say the Blues would either take Staal or trade down to take Staal.

It's just a pet peeve of mine when people reply in that way about who their team will draft. Another guy did it in the last few posts with Montreal, saying they would not pass Frolik or Little for Brassard. How does he know that? He doesn't..

Jesse Joensuu used to have tremendous value, wasn't he regarded as a top pick from the draft, as in like top 5 last year?

I think when he was 16, he was touted as a top 3 pick. He was very physical advanced for his age, and he made scouts drool at the time. Now that others in his age group have developed physcal, Joensuu has seen his stock falling. He just doesnt have the skills to be a top 10 puck, he has average hands. Scouts have realised that he isnt anything special, and he will probably fall into the 20 range.

I like Calgary getting Ben Maxwell, I really hope he is around when the pick comes to Calgary this summer.

As for these other guys, I can see Calgary taking a defenseman with their 2nd they may use their thirds on two forwards, but another defenseman would be fine as well.

But I haven't heard of Jeremy Russell, Sasha Golin or Victor Bartley, does anyone have info on them?

If Billy Sauer falls that far, i don't see the Caps not taking him with one of their 2nd rounders.

The Ducks are already loaded with RWs (Lupul, Ryan, Perry) so I don't think they will pick another RW, especially because in the mid first round you won't find a "can't pass prospect).

The Ducks are in need of a first line center, a first pairing d-man and goalies.

Great effort btw! :handclap:

Like I said this is my very early look and not all of the prospects have been seen. Also, not everyone has the same opinion, so be gental...

Vancouver has one of the Ducks second or third round picks, most likely the third because odds are the Ducks aren't in the playoffs.

I would be crying if the Oilers pass on Joensuu, Tlusty, Okposo, Vasyunov, for Mike Weber.
Vasyunov at 79 is a bad joke imo

Based on pure talent alone i would agree with you. But with no IIHF agreement with Russia and Vasyunov's reputation for being a 1 way player it may very well happen. Ilya Zubov was in a similar situation last year and he fell to 98th overall.

Rangers do NOT take the Finnish slug.

Let someone else enjoy him.
I think if he was left the Stars would pick him up, I wouldn't be suprised if the Stars took one of Helenius or Hoivonen, i can't see Hoivonen dropping outta the top 3 rounds, especially with the Finnish goaltending fad in place

A yeomens job Cup4wings,

I actually like Nikolai Kulemin pick. Though he is an overager I think he could definitely find a spot with the pens, if not next year then soon after. I just question whether the pens are willing to pick another Russian. The problem they have right now is an ownership problem (particularly lack of funds). If they get a daddy Warbucks owner before the draft, who set on bringing Malkin this season, then maybe. Unfortunately I don’t see a new owner coming in until after the slots license is decided one way or the other. If the pens did pick him, one could only hope they could get a happy meal discount from Magnitogorsk, a large ordering Malkin, with a Melenkykh and Kulenmin on the side.

Anyone know how LA got Nashville's third rounder? I don't think that's right...

Not sure why unless it was part of the JR trade. I would like LA to get some D. 2 centers a RW and a goalie? Maybe, but LA sure could use some D in their organization. Taylor seems to go with the bpa idea of drafting and I don't expect this to change, so you may be spot on.

Caps will not pick a dman in Round 2. RW, G or C

If the Caps have a chance, they will take Toews before Mueller playing Toews at C. If Witt brings a first they will draft a goalie or trade Witt for a goalie. They'll then draft another goalie at 34 or a RW. next they take the other at 40.Bouchard is listed at LW, probably the one position the Caps won't draft for (AO, Semin, Pettinger, Clymer, Fleischmann) behind d prospects our strongest position. Really appreciate the efoort though! Thanks for putting yourself on the line.

BTW, if Chicago took Berra right before us, Id be ticked!

We do not know how the lotto will change things among the bottom 5--having said that--Chicago will draft either 1st (if they win the lotto--but we all know the hockey gods won't allow it) or more likely 2nd,3rd or 4th since they are certain to finish 2nd or 3rd worst...my own prediction now is that STL will catch the Hawks thus giving the Hawks 2nd pick pre-lotto--PITT though worst, cannot expect to win the lotto twice in a row--so either teams who are #3,or #4 or #5 pre-lotto will win it--thus shoving the Hawks to 3rd pick anyway...

I don't know who the 5th team pre-lotto will be ...CBJ looks like they are climbing up beyond that slot...so I'll assume that either STL or WASH from the 3rdor 4th pre-lott spots will win it...

1.STL or WASH will take Kessel : a) STL because it needs new "star" power to sell tickets -the'll market the Hell out of PHIL THE THRILL ;WASH will take him to centre OVECHKIN and SEMIN and complete a "tiop gun line" ...

2. PIIT -take Erik Johnson (woulda taken him at #1 if they had not been bumped back by lotto...

3. CHI --the choice here is Toews,Staal,or Backstrom...
Backstrom is the most advanced of the 3 but is the smallest of them, stiill, the one I would rank highest NOW --Toews may have the best pure shot of the three,Staal has the greatest size and physical play and has the greatest upside IF he develops (young baby of the draft with late birthdate,Staal genes etc) -but he is the least developed and has not yet shown he has brother Eric's great wrist shot nor is he good at faceoffs=he's still very raw...

So it it going to be a tough choice for the Hawks --risk it on the upside of a raw Jordan Staal and hope he turns into another Eric or risk the downside that he does not develop as well;take a safer pick in Toews but get a guy with no flash and who may be a better winger than a pure centre--and the Hawks need centres,OR take the smaller but passionate and pretty good all round player in Backstrom who is more advanced aleardy playing against men in the SEL and doing well holding down a #1 line centre job on Brynas --very impressive for an 18 year old.. He could be NHL -ready earliest after just 1 more year in the SEL..

I rate Backstrom ahead of Staal NOW--but scouts will be projecting Staal and what he could be 3-4 years from now and based on that upside hope, may influence a team to take him higher than he merits AT THIS TIME.

My feeling is the Hawks will gamble on Staal and that lightning will strike 3 times for the Staal family...but my fear is that --given the hockey gods cruel treatment of the Hawks,it just may not pan out as hoped...and we will all look back ONCE AGAIN and remind ouselves that old hawksfan50 had another "Frolov" hunch (the player he most wanted for the Hawks in the 2000 draft--but instead Mike Smith took Yakubov--now gone form the org --and Vorobiev --who may be gone next year if they do not renew his contract) and the hunch this time is in favour of Backstrom over Staal...maybe they will both become stars,in which case choosing either of them is a good choice for the Hawks--but the hockey gods usually make one or two teams in the top 5 into laughingstocks for passing on so and so to take such and such --and nowing their penchaant for kugel blitzing the Hawks--Tallon and his staff could be in line for another "mistake" in this difficult crapshoot with the 3rd pick to draft that elusive top line centre to develop within the organization...a tough difficult choice.

Who do you think the Blues are targeting-Erik Johnson?

Does anyone think that the Rangers would go after Jiri Tlusty if he's available considering how well they've done this season with their Czech-laden squad? I think they would and he's played pretty well for the limited ice he's probably seeing and from the stats I saw for Kladno (7g-3a). I was figuring that Tlusty should be picked in the 20-25 range too.
