I would be crying if the Oilers pass on Joensuu, Tlusty, Okposo, Vasyunov, for Mike Weber.
Vasyunov at 79 is a bad joke imo

I like your list, pretty good effort. :)
Still I don't think NJ will take a goalie in the 1st round with Clemmensen/Ahonen/Doyle/Disher/Smith/Frazee in the system and the Damphousse/Ahonen failures in the 1st round...

NJ will probably take a defenseman (Weber, Mitera, Corrente, Wishart, DeGray?)

Frolik at 10? Man, as a Florida fan Williams is high on my "to get" list, but Frolik is pretty much #1. I dont believe he will drop that far.

If he does drop, he is gonna drop to 20. He fits the kings draft needs, stock to be falling.

I like how the Leafs would pick three centres, when wingers are what we really need (not that they can't be converted).

Leafs probably would not be taking 3 centres, what with Steen, Stajan, and Wellwood all looking solid, I know you draft for the future, but they'd likely be more interested in landing a winger with their first overall, or if the opportunity was there, a big time defender.

It's always awesome to see mock drafts though, thanks for posting it.

About the only place dallas is set prospect wise is defense. They have taken Fistric Fransson Grossman Nickerson Waugh Nikasanin all in the last few drafts and also picked up Scalzo and Belle. They need scorers wing or otherwise. They could take a goalie later as well as Ellis and Smith are getting older but Turco is there 4 more years anyway.

I'm not sure the Stars will be taking any defensemen in the early rounds this year(even if a consensus top guy falls, they will pass, ala O'Sullivan and Schremp). Look for them to probably grab yet another solid 2-way forward, although I'm holding out hope that they break that trend and take a high risk/high reward scorer(someone like Vasyunov). Wouldn't shock me to see them take a goalie(3rd round or later) either. But please, no defensemen unless a top guy falls.

Good Job

I agree with Greg Stack that Leafs would prefer to augment the wing, rather than center.

However, I am also convinced that we will either take a d-man, or go with BPA.

All in all, a nice list.

Thanks for the good read!

As somebody else noted, NJ 99.9% probably won't be drafting a goalie. While Ahonen looks like a bust now, we drafted Jeff Frazee with a high 2nd rounder last year. We're definitely thin everywhere else however. Ideally we could use a defenseman, but you have to draft the 'best player available' in the NHL. Your needs today can and probably will be drastically different than your needs three years later.

I like you idea (corresponds with mine) of the Sharks going defense heavy in the first day but the choices I'm not loving too much. I'm praying that Nigel Williams will fall to the Sharks. Shutron would add mobility and skill to the blueline but so does Ehrhoff and the Sharks don't seem committed to giving him icetime. I'd say they are similar players which wouldn't bode well for this selection. Ben Strait would fit the Sharks head scout Timmy Burke's MO...good skater and intangibles, but most importantly he's a Mass boy. I'd rather have Mathieu Carle at that spot, I mean come on, just imagine a Matt Carle-Mathieu Carle pairing. He's not a half bad player either.

If the Bruins don't sign draft pick Lars Jonsson by the draft(very likely), they'll be receiving a second round compensation pick (7th overall in the second round). This has been mentioned on the Bruins board before.

The Blues would either (A) take Staal at 2, or (B) trade down to a point where the know they'll still get Staal. I also don't know about taking Hillier at 30, but from there on I won't argue. However, I'm pretty confident if Kessel is on the board when the Blues pick, he'll still be on the board after the Blues make their pick.

While I'm sure we all have doubts about some of the choices, I appreciate your effort in doing this as it takes some major guts to throw something like this together so far from the draft. If nothing else, it gets everyone talking about the prospects and what their team's draft strategy will likely be.

This is a bold prediction, and although I'm not sure I agree it kinda makes sense.

Fans always speak as if they are the ones making the decisions for their teams.

"Nashville will not take a defenceman" -- they draft Ryan Parent

"Edmonton does not need a goalie, we have JDD" -- they pick Dubnyk

And so on.

At this point in time the Canucks own the ducks 3rd round draft pick.. in trade for the rights to coach randy Carlyl.

If the Ducks make the playoffs that 3rd becomes a 2nd.

(just so you can have an accurate list there)

I can't see the Oilers drafting a defenseman in the 1st round where they would need another goalie or preferably a RW. So instead of Mike Weber I would like them to pick RW Jesse Joensuu if he is available when they draft.

I can see the Oilers going majority forwards in this draft.

I don't really understand that drafting after positions. Normally you can be glad when the guy you drafted is on your roster 3,4 years after the draft. And nobody can tell how your roster looks at that time. Ok, its clear that when you have no young goalie in your organsiation you try to to draft one, but the mainthing should be to go for the most skilled player! I never understood the system from the oilers as they draft 2003 only after big guys and saying we needed big guys in our organization and we filled that need today. Stupid...
