Partner to the GM isn't front office? Keep doing your thing.

Huh? I took that to mean Fitz is working in concert with Lindy, his current HC, while making decisions involving the team.

It’s a comment about their current relationship while he’s HC, he didn’t get a promotion to “Partner to GM”.

Ruff’s contract is up after the end of this season. I assume he gets an extension as HC but it’s early.

It says he was "brought in" to be his partner. Not that he was partnering on coaching decision.

And that's on top of the comment Triumph already mentioned which is that Lindy would stay with the organization. And if he considers him a "partner" it's not a stretch to think that's a front office position.

Lindy hasn't had a front office position in his career. He's been in coaching for thirty years. I'd assume if he stayed in the organization after he were fired, he would be some sort of special assignment coach or senior advisor, the latter of which is a front office position but not one that implies partnership by any means. The Devils just promoted Brodeur.

Also, I think you should consider the context in which this comment is made, it's clearly referring to the assistant coaches.

Agreed,

While I'm loving the run we're on and the way the team is playing, I'm not sold on Ruff. History dictates this is as much the assistants as him, as he's literally never had a team this dominant or defensively sound. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I honestly don't see him being the coach that takes us to the next level or a cup.
Tough to say since this is the first year here that his primary job was to win games. He was tasked with developing young players in the 2 COVID years and the "Big 3" young forwards all wanted him back, IMO he did a fine job developing the young players.

Schmid was on a better team than Senn was but I'm super high on Schmid and think he's got a ton of potential as I've been saying for a while now.
Which is true and this I would think would have an effect on a goalies development.

So scouts would have to come into play. For as little as I've seen Schmid, I thought he looked bad last year, but good in his 4 periods of play this year.

Schmid being younger too.

I didn’t expect this sort of betrayal from his own Assistant Coach and from a non-commissioned officer to boot.

Ruff was already “brought in” so unless he was brought in for a front office position (we know he wasn’t) that’s not what Fitz is saying.

I do think there was a chance Ruff moved into a non-coaching role this offseason but either there never really was a chance or the Devils decided that wasn’t the move to make.

I think the team would have liked to have won games last year.

But I think the team could also acknowldege the team was young and the goal tending situation was terrible.

That said the PP was also terrible and that is on the coaches just as 5v5 play can be attributed to coaching.

No doubt. I know nobody likes the injury excuse but we have seen stats with how few games Hughes/Nico/Bratt/Hamilton have played together before this year. Fitz clearly accepted his role in last year's record. He failed to provide NHL caliber goal tending.

Schmid put up really good AHL numbers last year behind a competent AHL team, when he was here with our traveling circus of ineptitude, he looked bad, but so did every single goalie we used.

ruff's contract as a head coach ends at the end of the season. the devils brought in brunette as a new assistant with head coaching experience in the off-season. the devils doing great right now.
there is a very good chance the plan was from the beginning, that brunette takes over as the head coach in the summer 2023. he left florida despite being offered a position in the organization to become an assistant again with a different team. fitz, brunette and ruff may agreed to transition brunette into the head coach position.

ruff is not a problem right now. he is fine as the face of the coaching staff. his team plays lights out. the results reflect the play. chemistry looks awesome from the outside and a lot of player have improved individually.

time to support and not second guess

Not sure if this was posted already, poor guys didn't realize we were all yelling his name at first lol...

He thought they were booing him? :puppy:

Well I mean we did boo the s--t out of Lindy so I guess if he heard about that, he probably was right in thinking it was Boo'ing him at first.

But then it turned into a Boo-urns thing :D
