While he is inconsistent, I think we should re-sign him and give him some time to adjust to the roster (once other things are figured out). If anything, he can be a 3C/4C with flashes of scoring, which ain't too shabby.

Once we get to the offseason and they give him a training plan, I think he'll do just fine on the roster. If he falls short, we have decent enough depth to make up for it.

Obviously if we lose Hanzal and Richardson I am all for resigning him. What worries me is Jets fans indicated Burmi really doesn't respond well when playing on the 4th line. I do agree that getting used to his linemates, and maybe some tailored for his playing style, could go along way. But again, if we start the season with Dvo, Hanzal, Richardson down the middle and have guys like Dauphin, Strome or Keller who potentially could make the jump, then I would pass on Burmi.

Although a Crouse-Burmi-Duclair line is kind of interesting. Puck hound and space creator with a vet playmaker and speedy scorer. Also limits Duke's minutes and matchups which should please Dino Dave.

.

I see him as more of a 3C. Remember I'm thinking of 4C as more equal time/strategy than traditional teams. I'm assuming Hanzal is gone, Dauphin remains in Tuscon (except for a callup), and Strome as a wild card. Dvorak/Strome?/Burmi/Richardson. Of course, we could move Richardson back to the RW if we want (and he is willing), which would make room for Dauphin (if he's ready)

Crouse - Burmi - Richardson (Richardson could take FOs a la Doan)

I'd like to see Burmistrov used in a role like the one Columbus has been using Sam Gagner in. Basically, limit his minutes at even strength and keep him relatively sheltered, but park him on the half wall on the powerplay to make the best use of his playmaking skills. Burmistrov is a much more reliable defensive player than Gagner too, so you could even bump him up to 3rd line minutes (or 2nd in a pinch/depending on who the other centers on the roster are).

At any rate, he's worth keeping around on a short deal.

Great post.

I just hope he's not producing because he has an expanded role. The Arcobello Effect. What happens next year when Burmistrov is playing a reduced role?

This is what I'm worried about. He has looked good in the past teo games though and has a much better defensive game than Arcobello. I do like Pho's suggestion of making him a PP specialist that can slot into any line when needed.
