No real surprise. When you draft a RB as high as this and make him the focus of your offense, you have set yourself up to have to pay him big.
They really had no choice. What were they going to do? Let him walk as a free agent? If they do that, it's a total bust of a #4 overall pick.
This is one more reason why drafting a RB this high is a bad idea.
Drafting any RB in the first round is a bad idea but most NFL teams never learn.
Good for Zeke though. He's earned it.
I'm more worried about top ten picks than just the first round because most guys you're drafting there you are doing with the expectation that you will gladly hand them a second contract to get eight or more years of service out of them. If you draft a RB that high, you're guaranteeing that you hate the second contract or won't even offer one.I know people love to put down RB position at this time but you still grab guys with elite talent with a 1st and don't think twice about it
