If they do end up getting to that estimate, that's scary. 1000 new COVID-19 cases per day, when we were freaking out about 250 cases per day in July, is pretty terrifying. They need a vaccine out ASAP to combat the general indifference and idiocy towards COVID-19 that has developed. People think they "beat" COVID-19 at this point, and that is going to causes cases to continue skyrocketing.

I just wonder if/when we'll go back to shutdown mode. I know some people say that it will happen on January 20th, but I actually wonder if it happens before that point.

thats 1,000 a week..still way too many, I posted a few times about this so hate to repeat myself, but just put the f***ing mask, how f***ing hard is that, It did not and does not have to be either or, the antimaskers are the one that are killing the perspective of bouncing back and some ordinary precautions, the life could have been restored long time ago. People are just so damn f***ing stupid, beyond help I am afraid

Clearly you didn't read the article, it's not a loophole. They say it themselves:
“It’s not a loophole,” he added. “We’re just operating within the means of the system.”

I hope their Canadian home gets infested with bugs and they have to spend the whole summer in Florida.

Dr Bonnie Henry seems a tit.

They can't figure out a proper strict measure and have to keep going back and clarifying things they stated that people didn't get.

So now, here's another one that people will abuse - Only see the people you see regularly and only them. So you know how the morons that have been partying and having house parties will take that? ALL OF THEIR f***ING MATES are who they see regularly, so f*** it right? Keep partying.

Morons.

A school near my house is rumoured to have a bunch of grade 12’s test positive to COVID. I imagine it would be difficult to contact trace people that age.

At this point why are we arguing over what in the end is the fringes.

Timeline:

A. Six weeks, deaths cut 80 to 90 percent as the most vulnerable are vaccinated.

B. Five to six months everyone vaccinated.

Between A and B continuously diminishing death and infection numbers and a greater return to normalcy.

International Travel, with safety measures, will resume in two to three months. Restaurants opening more, easing of other restrictions, etc.

It is much easier to deal with hardship when the light is so close to the end of the tunnel. We remain fighting over minutia and really just dig down and survive this a relatively small time more.

Every single week will get a bit better.

your timeline is too condensed/optimistic.

previously you predicted that health care workers would be getting the vaccine in november. this is clearly not happening.

it is going to take many months for health care workers and vulnerable populations to get the vaccine, and certainly more than five to six months to get everyone vaccinated.

you have consistently and reliably been far too optimistic with your predictions. in all likelihood, you will be proven to be incorrect with the above timeline, just as you were incorrect about healthcare workers getting the vaccine in november.

i am a surgical subspecialist on staff at MGH and i would be extremely surprised if i got the vaccine in december.

you keep saying there is light at the end of the tunnel which is precisely the wrong message for the U.S. population to be hearing right now. the U.S. population needs to be warned that we are many many months away from the vaccine having a major impact on the pandemic, and that we need to be prepared for a very bleak and challenging winter, and emphasizing the importance of mask and social distancing and proper hygiene.

telling people we are close to the end of this is not helpful and not accurate.

Everyone is entitled to their own mindset, but telling someone to not have hope and that there is light at the end of the tunnel is completely ridiculous. I cannot fathom a life where we have to tell people that hope and positivity is the wrong message.

Jaded has been screaming from day 1 the importance of wearing a mask through everything. Jaded has been preaching against large groups of all sorts no matter what side it falls on. Jaded has been all about the precautions needed. And you can say these things while still having a positive mindset. I'll add a lot of people in this thread have been preaching the same thing.

I don't know what is going on with this world today, but this fight against any sort of positivity is really tough to sit back and watch. You can have a sense of urgency to follow proper protocol and still have a positive mindset. There was a considerable win for science with the insane speed the vaccines are being worked on. There was a considerable win for the amazing country we live in. There was even a considerable win for the world because they get to win out of this, too! You can take wins while still focusing on what we need to do as a great nation.

Being a surgeon at man's greatest hospital clears up a lot about your attitude in these threads. Being a surgeon makes you infinitely more qualified to opine on matters of medicine than most of us here. That is indisputable.

However, insisting on a bleak outlook as if people being optimistic is somehow a novel transmission mechanism is not any medicine I recognize.

I know enough statistics (for what it's worth probably more than you or any other surgeon) from my day job to know Pfizer has got a good vaccine.

Almost impossible and I keep hearing about people still thinking it's just fear mongering by the government to ruin their right to see friends and have fun and enjoy their youth.

We're at that level of stupid.

The only time you’ll hear Bonnie Henry mention schools is just to say positive things and avoids any negative news. Meanwhile.....

I wasn't going to post this, as it would be small to go the I was right route. But you misquote what we each said. Here is your post to me:

Hockey 4 everyone said:
im not confusing the two. I understand there is a distinction between a vaccine being FDA approved and widely available.

you have previously claimed that we are weeks away from the vaccine being approved and that the end of the pandemic was in sight. Now you saying we will probably have a vaccine approved by the end of the year. your timeline is changing.

we are not mere weeks away from a vaccine being approved. We are likely months away. we are also many many months perhaps even a year from the vaccine being widely available and having it make a significant impact on the virus.

It was simply an educated guess on my part. But that said, I was completely correct. Thank God for all of us I was.

As for the timeline, it isn't mine. It was from those in charge who I linked this morning. Saying by April they expect everyone to have access to a vaccine.

An example of one way distribution of the vaccine can reach more rural areas.

As I linked a few weeks ago, states were required to have plans in place, and distribution methods in place, by November 1st.

The van will first be used as a mobile COVID-19 testing facility but eventually can handle administering the COVID-19 vaccine.

Doctors say they'll be ready to handle Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine as early as next month.

"It has to be stored at -80 degrees Celsius, so it's going to be a challenge. The Wright center does have access to ultra-freezers and has secured ultra-freezers knowing that Pfizer was going to use that for a long time. So, mid-December for high-risk and frontline worker launch, and general public they're expecting around March," said Dr. Jignesh Sheth.

And in keeping with distribution news, on a larger scale:

About a billion doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine are expected to be sent around the world once it gets emergency approval from the Food and Drug Administration, and Memphis, primarily FedEx, could play a key role.

Equipping it, once done, to both store and ship the vaccine and its accompanying medical kit, in rapid fashion.

Medical distributor McKesson, with a plant in Memphis, said it has enough kits for 44 million people.

I just am happy to see that there is strong follow through on the distribution plans.

Honestly, my fear was that it would fall way short of this. Given the unique challenges of having to store this vaccine at 90 below zero freezers.

They seem to be very on the ball to successfully pull thus off. And deserve enormous credit. Everyone does. They are performing something that is a miracle, a series of miracles really. And I for one am in awe of all of them.
