FWIW, the NHL is holding a "last man in" fan vote starting 1/1. Hertl is on the ballot for the Sharks (from the Pacific Division options).

I still might watch the skills competition, but honestly the way they keep fiddling with he events is making it less interesting. The AHL All-Star game hasn't rejiggered its event lineup that much for the last 5-10 years and it remains the more interesting competition to watch.

He's definitely an all-star quality bench door opener.

He wasn't added to the roster. He's part of the last chance fan-vote along with one player from each other team in the division along with Ryan Getzlaf (Ana), Clayton Keller (Ari), Johnny Gaudreau (Cgy), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Edm), Drew Doughty (LA), Quinn Hughes (Van), and Max Pacioretty (VGK)

I'll bet there's almost no way he makes it in over players from 3 Canadian teams or high name-recognition guys like Doughty and Pacioretty.

I would say that Pacioretty deserves it. Near-PPG on a good team and a mostly respected member of a Canadian team. But I could see Canadia going crazy and voting Hughes into it.
