Could/Should the NHL cancel all trade deadline deals?

To support the OP's stream of logic it; the reversal should not extend to only trade deadline deals but any deal that included player contracts that extended beyond the COVID-19 pause.

Let's face it a team acquiring a player with a 4 years remaining on their contract 3 years ago expected the NHL to play an 82 game season and playoffs in 2019-2020. So in the OP's fairness world that should be reversed as well.

The bottom line, it is a terrible idea. Whatever unexpected undesirable outcome that occurs after a trade is part of the deal.

Trades won't be cancelled, but teams may be compensated picks.

How would it be less fair? It seems equally unfair for everyone involved no matter what.

It would seem just as unfair to have a team lose their 1st round pick (or whatever they gave up) for nothing because of a random event as well.

It would be less fair because the two organizations have already consummated the deal, players have changed teams, cap situations have been managed, contract talks are ongoing, draft strategies are in place. The selling team, having fulfilled their end of the bargain, is supposed to be stripped of the benefit and all the players go back to teams who decided they weren’t part of the plan? Who does that benefit other than the buying team?

In any case, this isn’t how business transactions work. If you buy something and suddenly realize you no longer have a need for it, the seller is under no obligation to allow a mulligan.

The nhl should just resume the 19-20 season whenever it’s ok to play again. Don’t throw this season away. Start from exactly where they were so the whole trade deadline thing isn’t an issue.

These are the trades involving 1st round picks in 2020 NHL Draft. Then there's also a bunch of lower picks that been traded previously.
Compensatory 1st round pick should start at #32 - #41. Maybe they should give #32 to Boston as a reward for being the best team this year:)

1 - 2018 Sep 30 San Jose Sharks traded 2020 1st round pick to Ottawa Senators (Erik Karlsson trade)
2 - 2019 Jun 22 Vancouver Canucks traded 2020 1st round pick to Tampa Bay Lightning (JT Miller).
3 - 2019 Jun 22 Toronto Maple Leafs traded 2020 1st round pick to Carolina Hurricanes (Patrick Marleau).
4 - 2019 Dec 16 Arizona Coyotes traded 2020 1st round pick to New Jersey Devils (Taylor Hall)
5 - 2020 Feb 10 Pittsburgh Penguins traded 2020 1st round pick to Minnesota Wild (Jason Zucker)
6 - 2020 Feb 16 Tampa Bay Lightning traded 2020 1st round pick to New Jersey Devils (Blake Coleman)
7 - 2020 Feb 21 Boston Bruins traded 2020 1st round pick to Anaheim Ducks (Ondrej Kase)
8 - 2020 Feb 24 New York Islanders traded 2020 1st and 2nd round pick to Ottawa Senators (Jean-Gabriel Pageau)
9 - 2020 Feb 24 Carolina Hurricanes traded 2020 1st round pick to New York Rangers (Brady Skjei)
10 - 2020 Feb 24 Tampa Bay Lightning traded 2020 1st round pick to San Jose Sharks (Barclay Goodrow).

In what order should the draft list be or has it been decided by the NHL. Perhaps they should let all teams in. In this corona virus draft with all teams having equal shot at Alexis Lafreniere. Shit happens

that made sense when the whole season was lost but not now. We have a season to base it off of.

However, if we have no playoffs, then the lottery should be to all teams, just not equally. Just crazy low odds as you get to the top. But yes, that means that the usual lottery slots will have lower odds by a bit.

I had a similar situation but was able to sell my first place at a 50k lesser value than expected last year.

It sucked but many people are in worse situations so I can't and don't complain about it.

If life gives you lemons all you can do is say “f*** the lemons” and bail.

And LA just locked Madden up :nod::nod::nod::nod::nod::nod::nod:
