He should probably sit out the fastest skater event. Absolutely nothing to gain. an event like that can tweak your knee. Take no chances or just go easy. The Team should should let him and the NHL know.

So you are saying you know better than all the specialists the Oilers and McDavid talked too? Can I see your medical degree.

The fact is you are just making stuff up.
I get where you’re coming from- but at the same time I feel the whole backlash against ‘internet doctors’ has gone a bit too far. Not just here but basically everywhere. Its not like doctor degrees have some magic voodoo that not only gives them brilliant insights but also excludes anyone else without that paper from having a helpful opinion.

As a parent I often search to look up what might be going on with my child, and often I find a forum thread somewhere thats just starting to get helpful before it inevitably gets shut down with posters screaming “We’re not medical professionals go see a doctor!” - which for me is the least helpful comment. Sometimes I just wanna get an idea of why that symptom might be there without clogging up the medical system over every tickle and cough...

An internet where only qualified professionals may freely express their opinions gets boring quick...

Come on....I dislike the Oiler's as much as anyone, but targeting a guys injured knee is about as low as you can get.

You have to wonder why they even released this? Wouldn't you keep this under wraps?

Is the team so desperate for attention that they need to make a documentary on exactly where McDavid is now vulnerable?

Of course, the Oilers are the kings of documenting their every step.

What? It being a PCL injury was known publicly ages ago.

I'd be more concerned by the cracked Tibia,

Not really, bones heal. The concern would be the cartilage damage from when the bones possibly collided during the injury.

They're probably releasing it because he completely recovered using a revolutionary rehabilitation process and it's unlikely to have any impact on his future. They wouldn't advertise that he's putting his career in jeopardy by making a risky decision. They're obviously satisfied with the result and feel he's past any serious risk where this kind of thing being being public could backfire. It's also being released by his and Adidas' camp, not the Oilers. So it's marketing more than anything.

Use your brains people, there's millions upon millions of dollars at stake here. Some doctors recommended surgery, some didn't, and luckily the path they chose worked.

"I smoke 5 packs a day and 8 months later, I'm in great health."

I get Oiler fans want to be optimistic, but there's no way to know if the decision to forego surgery "worked" at this point in time

I fully agree ..they are not stupid enough to basically say...."Hey look we gambled on his future and could fail, yay us!"

Yes, but why go into this detail about it?

I mean during the season they go to stupid lengths to hide injuries - Upper Body Injury / Lower Body Injury, that's all you get.

In this case, they have made a documentary about it.....just seems, odd, no?

Everyone knew it was a knee injury. Specifically a PCL injury.

What do the details matter? Are the opposing players doing surgery on his knee on the ice? haha

It's marketing. Plain and simple.

Where is it stated that McDavid is currently playing with his PCL torn in half?

Bunch or garbage posts from internet doctors who didn't even read the story. Seems like he put the work in and made a miraculous recovery. No way he makes the plays that hes been making this year if its still torn!

I think he'll be okay. He's worth millions and doctors cleared him. Everybody has something that bothers them, especially pro athletes.

Overreacting is fun though.

But that's why I find it funny when people are counting points per game and announcing "if player X had stayed healthy, he'd have outscored player Y!". Nobody is ever fully healthy. Player Y has something too, you just don't know it. Hockey games won and goals scored (in hand) are worth twice the amount (of points) in the bush. Durability is the most underrated ability among fans.

You know Dr. Giordano likes to operate those knees and I wouldn't count out his assistant mr. Ratboy doing some charity work in the next game

I'm gonna guess they don't care about the players individual health as much as we all think. Losing a player like McDavid for an entire season would be brutal for business and the Oilers would be in last place right now. Playing through injuries is never a good thing

actually losing that 12.5 million to IR would have allowed the oilers to maybe make some moves early in preparation for his return next year...
