I honestly don't get why people make such a big deal out of ES points. Not really related to McDavid, but some people seem to think that ES points are somehow inherently more valuable because they're at ES, which doesn't make sense to me.
They're more valuable because more of the game is played at even strength than on the power play. Especially in the playoffs where the amount of penalties goes down. They also tend to be less consistent year to year.I honestly don't get why people make such a big deal out of ES points. That's not to say powerplay points aren't of value, just not quite as much.

Its harder to produce to Even Strenght points. You know 2 +2 = 4 not 3. Or is it because It's McDavid and you have been known to discredit him on several occasions ....
They are more repeatable generally.
A guy will play 1200-1400 ES minutes and maybe 250 on the PP. A hot or cold streak on the PP can hugely skew results.
Does McDavid get less PP points because his speed is mostly irrelevant there? Kind of like a basketball player who thrives in transition points being forced into the halfcourt
He's actually a very good passer in powerplay. He has twice as many powerplay points as the #2 in his team.Does McDavid get less PP points because his speed is less important there? Kind of like a basketball player who thrives in transition points being forced into the halfcourt

Agreed. If McDavid dominates players at even strength but can't produce on the power play, isn't that a hole in his game? Why is a lack of production on the power play relative to even strength a positive when discussing a player?I honestly don't get why people make such a big deal out of ES points. It's harder to produce 5v5 than 5v4.

It's harder to score a goal than get an assist.
Goals > Assist > 2nd Assist
Why not remove secondary assists and lower assists to 0.7 points, when discussing point stats?
Obviously it's harder to score 5v5 than 5v4, but do you not see why the entire premise of such arguments is ridiculous?
McDavid is nothing like Hagelin.McDavid is like Hagelin. Speedy, so he sucks on the PP.
