I wish Montgomery would have kept them together.
montgomery is tbe biggest choke of them all.
lindolm and clifton were great pair. but in the playoffs lindholm was probably our worst dman of them all.
tgey all had brutal turnovers. even carlo, who was easily our best playoff defender, on the game 2 first goal. absolutely midget league turnovers by all our D.
game 6 cliffy had a rough game but if ullmark plays like he did all season nobody would even notice it. ullmark let up 6 friggin goals that game.lol

Just as bad as play by Orlov on that one. Our entire d performed miserably in the series. Gryz and forbert should go first; d needs to be tough to play against; and when cliffy plays stay at home he is generally pretty good at using his body to make it tougher to play against; something no other d does except mac once in a while. Cliffy upside is a Andrew ference type on d; use him that way and he is worth 3M; dump forbert; gryz; and yes even the great Carlo; and get some d that hold the blue line and hit like a ton of bricks in the corner.
I will ignore the nonsensical comment about Carlo, because you lost me when you compared Clifton to Ference almost laughable no wait it is laughable........

Only Bruin in the top 50 in the league for hits (I'm guessing).

Our D wasn't nearly physical enough in the playoffs, so he needs to be replaced by someone mean if we move on.

If you're looking at just d-men, then Carlo was also in the top 50 in hits. If you're looking entire NHL, Hathaway was in the top 50 along with Clifton

He's a plug that can't clear in-front of the net, loses 1 on 1 battles along the boards, and is a liability on the ice....

But hey, he takes himself out of the play when he throws a hit!!!

Ference was a 5-6 dman and played bigger than he was with and had a few years where he was a top 4; Clifton for most of the year played that role. Laughable? Alright bud.

What’s laughable is the coach letting our dman play wide open hockey in the playoffs; seeing guys like orlov press into the play in the neutral zone when ya got one dman back, forcing a dman to make a pass through two defenders from his own blue line. The d failed in the playoffs on the backs of the $20M + for their top four and mcgontmery; not Clifton.

He went from shutting down Ovechkin in the 2021 playoffs to having one of the worst playoff games as a defender against Florida. I think it's time to move on and sign a veteran 3RD for cheap.

ference averaged 20:01 per game in the NHL, Clifton has averaged 16.59 in his career and this past season he averaged 17:51 so no he wasnt in a top 4 role for most of the year. He played top 4 for a little bit at the start of the season when McAvoy and Gryz were injured and then he never sniffed it again.

Ference was a significantly better defender and slightly better offensively.

Ference played big minutes on bad clubs and Clifton minutes on good clubs.

At 5'11" and under 200 he plays bigger than just about anyone on our blue line.

So what.

Its not good enough, and he's a liability when he does try to be physical. Playing small is what has bounced us from the playoffs and has cost us at least 1 cup

I like his spirit, but he's to small and not talented enough to make up for his lack of strength.

It’s amazing how you just blurt things out and it’s so obvious you didn’t do even the easiest two minute google search to look it up.

Ference averaged more minutes per game with the bruins than any other team he played for. So unless you are calling those bruins teams “bad clubs” then you are just blurting out nonsense.

Clifton / Ference comparison is painfully obvious that the cup run was a long time ago (feel old)

Clifton is not Ference and no its not close.

You are nostalgia overrating Ference.

Ference had 1 season in his career where he scored more points in a season than Clifton did this year. Ference is a career 0.25 PPG

Lets compare Clifton this year to Ference in 2011.

Clifton:

23 pts
+20
2.1 GA/60
2.1 ESGA/60
17:51 per game
208 hits
120 blocks
20 take aways

Ference:

15 pts
+22
2.4 GA/60
2.0 ESGA/60
17:59 per game
74 hits
82 blocks
4 take aways

He joined the team in what 06/07? You tell me how that club was vs when he settled in on the bottom pair w/McQuaid.

For years Ference was ripped in here as injury prone and overpaid

Lol so you picked the one year ference played the least minutes in Boston.

Clifton career .18 ppg player. Ference career .24 ppg player.

Sure if we want to cherry pick single season I can make an argument for plenty of players over another.

You took Clifton’s best season and compared it to Ference worst season (maybe 2nd worst if we consider injured years)on the bruins lol

Ference when healthy was a significantly better player than clifton and it’s really not even close. Especially defensively.

Third pair RD needs to be a sub $1.5m cap hit. If that is Clifton, then fine. Otherwise, move on.
