The league is becoming softer not because it is getting faster and smaller. It is becoming softer because it started punishing physical play.Thinking that because the league is shifting towards more skilled players rather than pests/enforcers means that the league is becoming "*****fied" or "softer."
Misconceptions about the Penguins:
1) Penguins are the only franchise to tank. Caps, Blackhawks, Oilers, Tampa, and others all tanked in the last 20 years. Unlike those teams, the Pens did it due to bankruptcy. No one willingly gives away Jagr, Straka, Kovalev, Lang in their prime.
2) Crosby is a whiner. Not since 2010.
3) Pittsburgh is small market. While yes it's smaller than most American NHL markets, Pittsburgh is bigger than Edmonton and Winnipeg COMBINED. It is also just barely smaller than Buffalo and Raleigh COMBINED.
getting a first overall pick =/= tanking selling assets and playing your 4th string goalie so NJ doesnt finish last is tanking. Hawks didnt tank for Toews or Kane one was a lottery where they jumped 5 spots they were legitimately awful.
The Oilers didnt tank either 3 of their 5 first overalls dont even go to them if the last place team picks first they were genuinely god awful from top to bottom and couldnt draft for crap out of round 1
Pit didnt tank for Crosby but they sure as hell tanked in the 80s only other real example of tanking from start to finish is the 15 sabres
-How do you tank when you are the worst team in the league multiple years in a row? Explain....
Trade norris winning defenseman randy carlyle for nothing
start your 4th string goalie so NJ doesnt finish last near the end of the season
Their coach openly admitted that they played to lose to get lemieux
They played to lose to say they didnt take would be yet another instance of you being a clown.
-It was Jersey who tanked. It was Pittsburgh who was in last place MULTIPLE years with the WORST goal differential in the league multiple years. Jersey tried to tank to get the #1 pick. Pittsburgh isnt going to pull an Arizona this year and try to win games to save face at the end of the year. We arent dumb. Big difference.
Pit made the playoffs a season before lemieux while New Jersey was actually awful before and after 84. Pit was trading good players for nothing and icing their 4th string goalie the final stretch of the season even their coach in the tsn documentary admitted that they were intentionally losing, their own bench boss during that season. Pit tanked get over it and accept it.
-Which is why you have zero understanding of Pittsburgh.
-In 1982-1983 the Penguins finished in last place
-In 1983-1984 the Penguins finished in last place
-The Penguins won 18 games in 82-83 and 16 games in 83-84, by far the worst team in the league
-The Penguins drafted Mario Lemieux June 9th, 1984. And before Lemieux the Penguins were almost broke.
They made the playoffs in 82,81,80,79 etc the Devils/Rockies were at the bottom of the league that year being an expansion team.
Its funny how even their coaches and management staff admitted that they intentionally lost games to get lemieux and youre digging your head in the sand pretending it didnt happen my you are a special one. It is funny seeing you try and defend that tank job you have no argument to trading carlyle, starting their 4th string goalie to finish the season, the coaches and staff admitting that they played to lose. You just cant fight the truth and its funny seeing your mental gymnastics at work as you try to argue it wasnt a tank job.
-The Penguins finished in last place just like I said. With a -137 goal differential. The Next year the Penguins finished in dead last place again, with a -136 goal differential. Take a break from talking about the Penguins
1982-1983 nhl regular season standing - Google Search
1983-1984 nhl standing - Google Search
coaches and management staff literally admitted to tanking and losing games intentionally
PenguinSpeed: didnt tank derp
Wait, are you actually denying that the Penguins tanked to get Lemieux?-Except I double linked the Penguins were the worst team in the league 2 years in a row to prove you wrong. Hate on, however. We'll take the 5 Cups.
