I thought it was a joke ;(

It's sad to know that he was that much depressed, I couldn't have known that

Comedic genius, very few of his ilk. He brought so much joy to so many, including myself. It's so sad to see him go, especially like this. Thank you Mr. Williams for all the belly-aching laughter you provided over the years. May you rest in peace.

Rest peacefully. Big part of my child hood. Very sad about this one.

I don't think he was funny but I was shocked to read about this. Sad news.

He was one of my favorite standup comics after George Carlin and Mitch Hedberg. I will truly miss his genius!

Thank you so very much for all those laughs Robin...
You brought so much color in these very gray and dull days...

I wouldn't put him in the same category with Carlin, but that's just me. Still, even if he recycled jokes, it's a shame that he's gone.

I thought this one was quite poignant.

World and comedy world will miss Robin Williams.
(great comedian, drama actor, apparently very down-to-earth).

Loved Robin Williams in:
Good Will Hunting
Dead Poets Society
The World According to Garp
Mrs.Doubtfire
TV's Mork and Mindy...
...and so much more.

Brought so much joy and happiness to so many...so many.

Thank-you for everything, Robin.
Thank-you.

Thank-you for this (the above)...heart-warming and so true and ironic.

Between Robin Williams and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, it's been a bad year for amazing actors. :(

Yes, indeed. Sad year.

Hoffman was an amazing dramatic actor (The Master, Happiness, Boogie Nights, Scent of a Woman, and many more).

Williams was a genius comedian and underrated dramatic actor.
Turned decent movies into very good movies with his talent and positive energy.

Will be missed.
Their legacies/talent will live on through their movies, DVDs, books...

Loved his movies, comedy and interviews were too random and chaotic for my taste. One thing for sure everyone is talking about him today so like the OP, he must have touched a lot of people with his work. It's a shame someone who gave so much did not feel life was returning enough to him to keep going.
