Not a big move but an interesting one. Smith wasn't qualified last week but still signed an AHL deal, which is great because we needed that offensive depth with the Marlies. If he does really well we can sign him to a NHL contract, similar to what Clune, Holl and Froese did over the last couple years.

Good for him. Well deserved to come back. Glad the Marlies will bring him back and he'll be a good influence.

Marlies could definitely use him this year. I think he still has NHL potential, pretty underrated player

Marlies desperately need to refill the center spot since Arco, Nylander, and Carrick have moved on.

Colin Smith, (Byron Froese)?, Frederik Gauthier, Adam Brooks

Good move. Gauthier's game is not suited to be on the top line and you can't be relying on Brooks to come in and take the #1C job. The Marlies won't be as good as last year but there's no reason to think they can't have another nice playoff run.

Smith and Holl

Those two guys could have signed anywhere. IMO there is an agreement with the Leafs that if a team wants them on an NHL roster the Leafs will oblige to a trade. The Leafs did it for Panik last year.

Certainly Smith and Holl look like they have some ability play well in the AHL or possibly at bottom tier NHLers.

Maybe he'll pull a Rich Clune and earn the NHL deal after Training camp

The guy proved he can score at the AHL level. He's also very hardworking and can on the PK. Perfect guy for Brooks to learn from imo.

Let's hope Dicky comes back as well!

Wouldn't be so sure about that. They may not be as experienced (vets) as last seasons club but they will have a deeper line up.

AHL eligible:

Andreas Johnson (RW)
J.J. Piccinich (RW)
Pierre Engvall (LW)
Andrew Nielsen (D)
Jeremy Bracco (RW)
Travis Dermott (D)
Jack Walker (W/D)
Adam Brooks (C)

+ the vets already there and the prospects who don't make the cut.

Clune will get more $$$$ from the marlies then he ever will scraping his way into the nhl. Surely the leafs will offer him a Campbell type contract 2yrs ($250,000, $400,000) to keep the marlie youngsters on the straight and narrow.

Many of these players won't be in the AHL next year though.
