Perfetti is the shiny new toy, and caufield going 15th has had an impact on public perception. id even know who is doing those mock drafts you listed but a guy like pronman who is much more credible than random people doing mock drafts had caufield 6th and Perfetti is currently 14th on his list. And I thought everyone on hf considered button a joke? perfetti over byfield, laf, holts and raymond definitely is a joke at this point.

Pronman’s rankings will almost certainly change following the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

I doubt Perfetti ever seriously contends for #1, but he’s absolutely in the conversation for #2 as of today. Likely falls somewhere in the 3-5 range right now though.

This draft is so ridiculously deep that a lot could change, there are some unbelievable talents in this draft.

It was Button during the broadcast today that said he had him at 4. Also these two mock drafts posted to the HFBoards 2020 draft thread have him at 5 and 6

I had him fifth on my personal list right before the 2019 NHL draft. Extremely good and talented prospect. Very Marner-esque and in no disrespect to Caufield will be the superior prospect.

I highly doubt Caufield is top 8 in the best draft class since 2015 and shaping up to be a top 3 class in the last 20 years (2003, 2015)

2013 too.

MacKinnon, Barkov, Jones, Lindholm, Monahan, Horvat, Domi, Theodore, etc. for stars/rising stars.

Plus a ton of great depth players.

Give me Caufield. If perfetti can improve his skating in this year, he'll be my pick but for now Caufield is more promising imo. His skating is poor right now but seems more technically flawed than poor power so it still seems like it could develop nicely but I can't assess him til his skating coaches finish him off.

Also, perfetti isn't in my top 4 for next draft yet. Top 7 probably

Perfetti’s been a top 5 prospect for this draft for a while and this is a much deeper draft than 2019. Even before Hlinka I would have said Perfetti without a doubt

2020's been better for years, though. It's been considered the best since 2015 for as long as I can remember. Well, just for a few years, obviously it's pretty tough to project too far into the future.

He actually was ranked as a top 8 talent, though. Just because he got drafted later doesn't suddenly reduce his talent.

In the last 20ish years the best 3 draft classes are likely, in no order, 2003, 2015, 2020.

And 2019 had long been seen as an excellent draft class before the season had started, as had been the 2018 class, and the 2017 class before them...

2017 was seen as a weak class prior to the draft.

2020 is the best draft since 2015 and arguably a top 3 in the last 20 years. The high end quality and depth is exceptional.
