To MTL:
Jost

To COL:
Armia

Straight up, 1-for-1. I've been a fan of Armia since his WPG days and he's a big RW that is having a great season. The Habs are in a bit of a spiral and if they don't make the playoffs perhaps they are interested in getting younger and selling a guy that will be a UFA after next season. Jost is 21 and I think he would fit in well with the other Habs youngsters, and into their system a little better than Colorado. Avs get another big sturdy Finn that can help them more the next 2 seasons than Jost will, especially with guys like Bowers and Newhook in the wings. Thoughts?

Seems like a fair trade for both sides. Question though isn't Colorado pretty decently set on the right wing?
Or is he a perfect guy for the third line.

I'm liking Armia's season, but does he have another level? Is he in the midst of hitting it?

I'm not sure I get this.

Colorado doesn't exactly need RWers, but needs a 3C.

Montreal doesn't need middle of the lineup centers, but needs RWers, especial those with size.

Kind of seems dumb for both sides.

EDIT: Like, I don't have a problem with Montreal moving Armia if the season is a write-off, but Jost isn't really the piece Montreal would want.

He’s had a knee injury last year that really, really slowed him down.

He’s been fantastic this season. His puck retrieval skills, puck protection, hands and shot is elite. Had he been a little bit faster and had a better vision, he would’ve been a PPG in my opinion.

Anyway, not for sale. He’s been good for us. His skillset is unique and we need more of it, not less.

We've got a lot of players that can play a few positions. I see him as the 3rd line RW with potentially 2nd line depending if Bura can keep his pace up. Here's what I'd imagine when healthy:

Landeskog - MacKinnon - Rantanen
Donskoi - Kadri - Burakovsky
Calvert - Compher - Armia
Nieto - Bellemare - Nuke
Kamenev, Wilson (LTIR)

We probably are in more of a need for a LW but this Armia seems like a good target. Or spread the love a little:

Donskoi - Mack - Rantanen
Landeskog - Kadri - Armia
Burakovsky - Kamenev/Compher - Compher/Calvert/Nuke
Nieto - Bellemare - Calvert/Nuke
Nuke, Wilson

Yeah if I'm Montreal I just keep Armia, he seems like a guy they need and Colorado already has scoring wingers

Its a fair trade that could blow up in our faces if Jost breaks out, but thats just the risk we have to take. I would LOVE another big two-way player on the team though, especially a sniper.

I get the Habs like him, but it's more of a 'state of the franchise' and contract trade. Armia is UFA after next season. Sure they could sign him, but he could also choose to walk. He's 26 and likely reaching his peak these next couple of years, when the team is in a mini-rebuild. Jost fits into the Suzuki, Kotaniemi, Poehling age group and could be better for their future. That's the logic anyway.

But you can’t have half of your forwards on ELC. You need and mix of rookies, young veterans and veterans. It also does help that Armia has a unique skillset that Montreal lacks right now.

Sure he’s going to be UFA in a year and a half, but so far Montreal his giving him ice time, the chance to perform and he seems to like it here, so I’m not sure what the holdup would be if we wanted to get him signed on July 1st to a contract extension.

Value is really good for Mtl IMO, but it doesn't make sense size and position wise.
Bergevin probably don't offer this but if Sakic call with this offer, it's hard to say no.

How exactly does Jost fit with Suzuki, Kotaniemi and Poehling if he plays the same position as all three? Even if Montreal were to trade/not re-sign Danault and move Domi to LW, they'd still have trouble fitting them all in. Especially with their mid-20s LWers on the roster and Suzuki being the only one who shoots right.

Montreal would probably prefer a D prospect or picks if they were going the rebuild direction.

I don't know where Jost fits, I mean Suzuki is playing wing because we already have too many centers

Fair value, Always been high on Jost, could break out at any moment but also hasn't proved he will. Problem here, like stated above, Size, Lw, playstyle. Montreal has alot of small playmaking left winger. While Armia is 26, his playstyle ages very well and could still be a part of the solution in a mid/long term project, In a perfect world Armia would be a 3rd line, defensive, puck possesion foward, PK specialist! while not being super creative and creating high danger plays, he brings necessary assets to be a winning well rounded team! ( probably the reason you are ready to sacrifice a young guy like Jost). Problem with Montreal right now is a top PMLHD and a elite finisher! (one of these options is in the farm knocking soon). It's a very hard to decline proposal, but the safest decision.

On the other hand, can we entice you with a smaller and younger finn, with a great motor, good on the PK, good defensively but forechecker instead of puck possession abilities.

Umm, I don't know how hab fans would even want to consider this? Prob same ones that complain how we are so small and get pushed around. :help:

The ones considering it aren't the ones complaining about size. It's good value-wise, but we need Armia (size, right handed, RW, goal scorer...), so it doesn't make sense.

I think the Habs do this. Armia isn't a super important piece. Neither is Jost, but he's worth it for his potential. He could be a real solid 2nd line centre.
