Don’t like this. Helm had an underwhelming regular season and only turned it on in the post season. Cogs could have filled his role on the team. Avs really hate developing younger players.
I like it but also agree with this. We needed to leave open space for my boys Kaut and Bowers (lol).

Dude crushed it in the postseason, at this point it's more about having reliable veteran forwards for the playoffs than the regular season. When he and/or Cogs inevitably get injured they can call up someone, even though there's not much in the way of young players who are reliably ready for a bottom 6 role. Who is he taking a job from?

He deserves 1 million dollars just for scoring that goal in the last few seconds of game 6 against the blues. The look on the players and fans in that building. Priceless!

Who knows. Avs never try to develop their youth. They have this idiot running the team in Loveland that uses AHL vet nobodies like Sherwood for PP1 and most of the ice time.

Avs seem to think the AHL team is for winning and not developing players.

Good depth signing.

With Meyers and Sedlak it gives them 12 forwards. See what happens about a 2C today.

$13M in cap space with Lehkonen getting $5M at most and needing one more Dman.

Best potential trade dump is Compher. One year left at $3.5M.

LOL

Rantanen, Compher, O'Connor, Francouz and Newhook are all players the Avs have developed in the last handful of years that spent time in the AHL. Barron and Timmins too if you want to include prospects no longer with the team.

Kaut and Bowers don't get playing time for one simple reason: they aren't any good.

edit: forgot to include Ryan Graves who directly credits Greg Cronin with helping him become an NHL player. 🤣

Happy to have Helm back. The Avs 4th line became a real strength in the playoffs. Tenacious and relentless on the puck as well as excellent PKing and both Cogliano and Helm were a huge part of that.

With that being said... these small 250-500k overpays on guys are starting to add up for the Avs. Between Cogs/Helm getting 250k more then they should have gotten, and Georgiev getting 500k... That's $1M in cap lost IMO. It could be significant.

In the dream scenario, we would've shaved 250K off this & the Cogs deals, and shaved 300-500K (or more) off the Nuke & Georgiev contracts to try to leave ourselves with enough capspace to bring back Manson & still have ~5.5M to offer a Kadri replacement.

But at this point we'll only have the capspace for either a Manson or a Kadri replacement, unless someone fills one of those roles on a big discount. So I'm ok with paying a little bit more than I'd have wanted to keep the guys we want to hold onto.

Both Helm and LOC struggled when put on lines with JTC - really looked awful. Once they were linked in with Cogs it started to work. This is great news for all 3 of those guys. Go back and watch game 6 - in first period it was a hot mess when they were apart and Bednar put these guys back together late in the first and the whole team started working right. Weird how every stinking line started locking TBL down because of this line.

I dont think Avs fans can hate it, I am not sure what/who you have on the ready to come up that he might block out but he's a winner and knows what it takes.

Nice to have those guys around
