Bryan Smolinski? Always 0.5ppg for a long career. Average skater. Average shot. A bit above average playmaking. Sounds like Tierney.

Tierney won't crack 20 goals a season in his career let alone 650points.
Smolinksi was a good complementary player, didn't really do anything greatm but better than average and much better than Tierney.

I would take a 2nd a run if that was on the table.

Aside from a couple 60ish point seasons from the early to mid 90s, Smolinski was generally a 40-55 point player putting up like 15ish goals with like 30-35 assists. He did so while not standing out in any skill. Responsible defensively but not a shut down forward. Not overly physical but doesn't usually shy away.

Tierney is that player, minus like 5-10 points. He'll put up 10-15 goals and like 25-30 assists while not standing out in any skill. Responsible defensively but not a shut down forward. Not overly physical but doesn't usually shy away.

Tierney probably won't have the longevity. I'd guess like 350-400 points in like 850 games when his career is done whereas Smolinski will have had more longevity, 5-10 more points per year, plus a couple high scoring seasons early boosting his numbers to like 600 in 1100 or whatever smokes has.

Like if I take 3 goals and 4 assists off of Smolinskis seasons (to go with the 5-10 less points per season I was talking about) you'll notice it looks a lot like seasons Tierney is putting up.

Starting in 97-98:

81-10-26-36
82-13-20-33
79-17-32-49
78-24-28-52(outlier)
80-10-21-31
68-18-21-39
80-16-23-39
81-14-27-41
82-15-22-37

Those look a lot like Tierney stat lines:

82-17-23-40
81-9-39-48
82-11-34-45(pace)

Dunno what you're objection is... You could argue Smolinskis shot was a bit better, but both were very average all around while Tierney is 35-45 point player and Smolinskis is a 45-55 point player.

Tierney is definitely not the *best* fit for NYI, but paying a pick for him is probably better than what the cost on JGP seems will be.

JGP would be a very nice fit for the NYI ,that team defense style would fit him like a glove...Wouldnt be surprised at all if NY takes a run at getting him

For sure they will. But it looks like the price might be prohibitive. NYI don't have enough organizational depth to trade a first round pick PLUS something else significant.

Maybe as a FA???But that team is almost as perfect a fit for him as there is out there

It depends how you define significant. I do not think Pageau will return anything more than a project (Duclair style) or an ok prospect on top of a 1st.

I think that would be great. But I think there are many teams looking to rent him, so I expect the price to rise. Wahlstrom, Dobson, Wilde, and Sorokin are the only spects I would exclude in a deal.
