The problem with Rooney specifically, though, is that he grew up a Bruins fan and now bends over so far backwards to "prove" his impartiality that he ends up affecting the game.

This is nothing new - he's been doing it for years. That it's happening in the SCF just throws a big spotlight on it.

There's a reason why judges will recuse themselves from cases that strike too close to home. They recognize that they can't be impartial. Unfortunately (but understandably) Rooney isn't going to do that.

This is exactly how I feel...and its a pretty easy perception. Making a case that Rooney is having a problem doing his job because of a bias is pretty simple. That this is a MONSTROUS problem in the Stanley Cup Finals is truly sad.

People can say they are sick of the whining all they want...but with the at-least 2 powerplays from obvious calls that were willfully ignored the Bruins were robbed of opportunities that had the power to turn a lose into a victory.

That is bush league. That trophy deserves better. Step up NHL. Shameful display in our showcase.

How many games in the past 5 years have the Bruins played with 0 PP chances? It seems like a lot. There was probably 2 or 3 this year and the one in SCF. How does that even happen?

There's another guy on the ice with him so it's not just Rooney.

Just can't happen - if any NHL ref took this position, he would be done for good, and every ref in the NHL would be looked at askance.

The NHL has to project total impartiality, even if it is a joke. One ref admits he favors a team, and they all become suspect.

If it is true they can't admit it. House of cards syndrome.

It would be like making Tim Donaghy the chief referee in the NBA.
