So is a team likely to pay more or less when their trading partner is vulnerable?

Who is more vulnerable?
Chicago lost two players with expired shelf lives for the big team.
Chicago gets an extra contract slot open (Raanta) , and that could be a difference maker with one of a few teams that have bumbled their pool as gms like Tallon or Holmgren have done in the past.

They are more attractive with all the ice time open with both goalies gone.

They get something for nothing after these deals with no impact on the big team. Everything worked out as great unless Raanta or Nilsson is a stud number 1 in the next couple years on a much lower cap hit.

trying to see he bigger picture

Obviously Nilsson was not going to play in Chicago with Darling emerging.

At first I thought Stan did Edmonton a favor, and maybe was priming the pump for another deal.

Then I thought maybe he wanted to send Nilsson somewhere it wouldn't bite him. Perhaps he's filling out the AHL roster not sure.

Stan will rue the day he traded the great Anders Nilsson, also known as the guy that was a throwaway in the Leddy deal.

7/6/15 Never forget as this will be the move that will end the Hawks....at least thats what some of these responses have made this appear.

7 pages dedicated to this nonsense trade, wow...........

Lot of back-and-forth in every thread these days. More so than ever, it seems. Bi-polar views on things and everything in between. Such is the nature of a message board, I guess, but just been a bit off the wall of lately.

I wonder how bad the outcry would be if a bag of pucks is traded

Again, multiple pages of discussion for a completely non-noteworthy move.

The Blackhawks have two NHL goaltenders. Have you met them? Their names are Corey Crawford and Scott Darling. They'll be here for a while.

Nilsson wanted to play in the NHL, which is a chance that he wouldn't get with the Hawks. He had no place in our organization. We got a halfway-decent piece back. There's nothing to complain about here.

Let's not forget, it's not like there's a huge demand for goalies to meet the supply.

I keep seeing this thread getting bumped up but ignoring it because when I first saw of the trade I basically went "whatever" and moved on.

But there are quite a number of posts in here for a "whatever" thread so instead of having to read through them all, can somebody tell me what if anything is so noteworthy about it?

Just people complaining for the sake of complaining.
The only posts that really matter are also of the 'whatever' variety

Oh okay, thanks.

Guess the offseason and the prolonged silence on the whole Sharp/Bickell/Kruger/Oduya front makes even a trade like Anders Nilsson for Liam Coughlin worthy of Deep Scrutiny on here.

we should have been sellers.
Giving up #30 wasn't worth a Top9 Center that ended up with 3 GWG in the POs
We were done after game 3 against the Ducks

No Chance against the triplets and Vasilevsky

This whole entire page starting from the second post is filled with people complaining about what exactly? They are complaining about the supposed complainers, it's a 9:1 ratio of complainer complainers than actual complainers, atleast the actual complainers are complaining about something that actually happened, they are discussing hockey moves which is what you are supposed to do in a hockey forum , the good or the bad will be discussed. The real moaners and groaners are the white knights captains save a Stan...

The disconnect from reality here is very interesting.

According to some we have 2 low value goaltenders that need to be moved. If they are not moved we lose them. Since the value, according to some is low, the loss would be minimal.

So...Stan decides to move them quickly for minimal return even though there could be many suitors later if an injury or 2 occur.

With Sharp, many believe he is a great desirable albeit expensive asset. Apparently the trade offers have been underwhelming thus he remains an unaffordable Blackhawk.

So...Stan decides to wait and extract more value in trade. This, despite the fact that time is not on his side as the list of potential trading partners dwindles and the Hawks financial noose ratchets tighter each day that passes.

Welcome to HF, where King is spelled S T A N and individual reason is left at the door.

Move em quick - Doing them a favor
Move em slow- waiting for better offers
Move em for nothing - There is no market
Move em for something - Hail the King
Move Saad - he asked for too much had to be moved
Sign some players to 2 Mill above value - we had to keep them, they would have got more as UFA
Save 200k on a contract of a 4th liner - He is a hero
Suggest trading Crawford - Head needs to be checked
If Stan trades Crawford - All bow and praise, it was the right move to have better depth
Sign AA to a ridiculous long contract - missing #2 center "but but we won 2 cups without" shut up!

Speaking of disconnected from reality, the prima facie position on a GM who has presided over three Stanley Cups in six years and been the primary architect of two of them (and very likely missed on another by the margin of a Nick Leddy-deflected puck), is that he generally knows what he's doing. And yet, a small clique of contrarian flat-earthers on this board insists that the man can't so much as get out of bed in the morning without tripping over his own feet, as if a few questionable decisions overcome the mountainous burden of proof that 105lbs of silver/nickel alloy represents. Oh, how you all must strain your necks looking up from the foothills!

"Reason" indeed...

Why is everything so black and white to so many on this board? The value of a player is what other GMs are willing to give up to acquire that player. Stan may end up getting very little for Sharp, unfortunately we'll never know what offers were made to Stan by other GMs. He may very well have overplayed his hand and end up taking a lesser deal for Sharp next week than he could have at the draft. We'll probably never know.
