I thought CBJ was set on D? Aside from that I doubt they're ready to give up on Wennberg for a guy that'd be on their 3rd pairing

I get not wanting to do this, but saying Brodie would be on your 3rd pair is ridiculous. He’s a really good #2 on any team. Also to clarify for some, Brodie plays on the RS.

It all just depends. I wouldnt call Brodie a bottom pair defender in this league at all buuuuuuut he would likely end up on our 3rd pair just because depth.

That's interesting, he wasn't a really good #2 on the Flames until recently. In the last two years he was often not even a really good #3/4 on the Flames.

Gee, I wonder what could account for his sudden improvement. Surely whatever helped him he would take it with him if he was traded, no need for any concern about Brodie.

That would be incorrect. Werenski is better overall. Murray is better overall. Then it would come down to who has better chemistry with who the partner would be.

Amd yes Murray is better. Murray has been consistently one of the most underrated players in the league for years do to injury. He had 1 bad year where they had him play on his off side with a rookie. Outside of that Murray has been better then a large chunk of the league. Its no surprise why Jones has had such a great start to the year because Murray is a calming blueline presence that often leads guys to play looser and more confident knowing Murray is playing back to stop any counter attack.

If you're suggesting anything about Gio, take a look at Brodie playing on the RIGHT/off side, he was good with frickin Engallened* jn the playoffs while playing #1 RD while Gio was down, the last two seasons here he has plwyed LD and has had a couple major problems with his life at home, now since he was moved back to the RIGHT side he has improved his play drastically! HesH better than Murray IMO, he would improve CBJ's top4D easily even if he was the #3

Giordano making players look good again? You got Carolina to bite so be happy. Brodie would likely be 2nd/3rd pair but they would probably be even pairs. defense would be
Murray-Jones
Nutivaara-Savard
Werenski-Brodie
While center depth would be:
Dubois
Jenner
Dubinsky
Nash
Do people not see the problem here?

Brodie would definitely be on the CBJ's 2nd pairing with Werenski. Actually it would be more like Murray - Jones 1A and Werenski - Brodie 1B with each getting about 20-25 minutes a night.

But CBJ would have about 50% of its cap spent on the defense which is really not good. They would be spending about $8 million on the bottom pairing of Nutivaara-Savard alone.

Not tenable. And I really am not a fan of a move which forces the CBJ to turn around and make another one right away.

I get that Jones is really good, but right now you don't move Monahan. You have a legit top line with 3 first line players for the 1st time in decades. Take out your 1C and move Lindholm to the middle and Tkachuk up and you don't have a 2nd line. Not to mention we have a strong blueline with lots of young guys progressing and we have no high end forwards in the system.

This might be considered if perchance we do something like trading Werenski for a much better C. Even then, it's extraordinarily dubious. As is, zero chance. We need improvements at center and are more than set at LD.

(And no, you can't have him. Not unless you're willing to give us Monahan.)

Viqsi, would you do something like :

- Poehling ( your future 2c Dubois/Poehling)
- Byron or tatar
- 1rd

FOR

- Werenski

Not a snowball's chance in hell. :) If we move Werenski, it's for someone who's a top-line center right now. Not "future", not "later this year", immediately.

Well our center depth is actually strong, and Lindholm would be our 1C. Secondly, our top 4 D is literally set for years if we get Jones. You legit don't know how good Jones is.
I do know how good Jones is, doesn’t change this from a logical standpoint. That’d break up our whole offence and I bet you anything we’d start to play much worse. Our D is fine for years to come with Hanifin, Kylington, Andersson and Valimaki all 22 and under.

I think Brodies struggles the last two years will allow us to sign him for a reasonable amount.

But ya, we need some vets on our defense. I'd like at least 3 guys over 22 haha.

I can understand werenki just because he is younger

Murray has never played close to Brodie best...

You never watched Murray. Looked at numbers out of context maybe but not truly watched Murray with Jones or with Wiz. When he is paired with someone who knows how to play basoc hockey he is able to shine.

Can you stop? I don't think you know anything about Murray or Nutivaara.

Right now Murray is an exemplary shutdown D who happens to be outproducing the freelancer Brodie. Nutivaara also has similar production and is somewhat similar to Brodie in playstyle (though Nuti's proven that he can play well with anyone).

Everyone including Flames fans did nothing but complain about Brodie for two years. You're not fooling anyone.

Yeah and Murray has done shit in those 2 years....

I am not advocating the deal for Columbus but Brodie is not a bottom pairing dman even on Columbus. That is same as saying wennberg is a 3rd/4th line center because that is probably where he would play in Calgary

Nobody has claimed Brodie is bottom pairing quality, just that he'd play there in Columbus.
