There was a big discussion about this trade back to the summer. Both fan bases were happy about getting rid of their respective players. A few months have passed, and you won't find a lot of Toronto fans happy about Ceci, while most Ottawa fans are sure Zaitsev is a much better player and more or less satisfied with his game.

So what do you think, what player is actually better out of these two?

Its really not saying much to be better than Ceci and Zaitsev has a long contract but I can say this with Certainty. I havent wanted to throw my remote nearly as much this season watching the sens as last year, and overall the roster is actually worse.

Zaitsev sucks. Ceci mostly sucks but still have potential to be decent if support by a stacked team that's gelling well.

Toronto fans by and large seem to be comfortable with Ceci and even willing to sign him longer term, at current price. They hated Zaitsev at that price.

Zaitsev, despite getting better deployment on the Ottawa team than Ceci did last year is largely lower across for the board for all stats including advanced stats. Ceci takes the crap minutes Zaitsev got last year on toronto, and is an improvement across the board on all stats.

There is a large Ceci hate on that really does not jive with what he produces.

Both trash

Gimme ceci all day everyday cause his contract is done this year

Zaitsev has like 4 years left. Puke

Good move for leafs
Trading Zaitsev was a good move indeed, but signing Ceci for 4.5mil, on the other hand, was a bad move.

It was inevitable since Ottawa already offered him his qualifying offer. His floor salary was 4.3 and who knows what arbitration could have brought

One is playing on a NHL team and the other is playing on an AHL team.

That’s all you need to know when it comes to advanced stats.

Thankfully Zaitsev won’t get exposed in the playoffs while Ceci certainly will.

Ceci. Both suck, but Zaitsev sucks more and for longer. 5v5 numbers
Ceci: 12 games | 4 points | 52 cf% (-3.2 rel) | 66.7 gf% (+23.8 rel) | 53 xgf% (+3.6 rel) | 30 QoC
Zaitsev: 10 games | 1 point | 41 cf% (-9.5 rel) | 33 gf% (-12.8 rel) | 40.9 xgf% (-10.4 rel) | 29.3 QoC

Ceci is better but you have to realize that if you force a bottom pairing dman to play on the top pairing of the worst team in the league his numbers are gonna look uglier than they should.

Basically the same defenseman, but one is signed for 4 years longer at too much money.

Still can't believe the Leafs got out of that contract for next to nothing after trading a 1st to get rid of Marleau.

Why are so many people considering contracts when that wasn't the question? Hm.

Yeah, that trade truly puzzled me at the time. If Leafs just had not signed Ceci, though, they could have held on to Marleau and didn't have to give up a 1st. Baffling.

Ceci is fighting for his NHL life, Zaitsev is set for life because of that contract the Leafs gave him.

Wouldn't want either of them on my team.

First, Zaitsev has scored 2 points, not one. Second, Zaitsev's PDO is 975, while Ceci's one is 1020. It's a huge difference.

the sens had already extended a qualifying offer to Ceci so they had no option but to sign Him from what I understand

Zaitsev is a lot better than Ceci

Leafs moved him to ease their cap situation

PDO doesn’t have any effect on those stats

"PDO, called SPSV% by the NHL,[4] is the sum of a team's shooting percentage and its save percentage.[7] PDO is usually measured at even strength, and based on the theory that most teams will ultimately regress toward a sum of 100, is often viewed as a proxy for how lucky a team is. According to Wilson, a player or team with a PDO over 102 is "probably not as good as they seem", while a player or team below 98 likely is better than they appear"
