I know multiple people that know gmgm personally and have all said he's a total *******. That he's exactly as he seems, narcissistic and cold.

A few of us on this board have sat down and met with Ted and GMGM for an hour or so in their office to talk about Caps hockey.

Re: GMGM, arrogant and condescending ("if you knew the game, you'd be in it") come to mind immediately.

sure there is. you forget that most coaches are coaching for the guaranteed point. there is no chance that a coach in a tie game with a division rival goes for the regulation win against a division or conference rival and risks that 6pt swing. he is going to play for ot. if ot is now a 4pt swing. he is going to play for the shootout.

my view is that 3pt reg win creates more overtime. not less

That's absurd. About halfway through the first season the teams that are winning in regulation will start pulling far away from the teams that are playing it safe in division games, and nobody will think it's smart to try less in order to get 1 point instead of 3.

who said that they think 1 pt is better than 3? they will think that losing in regulation and getting nothing when your rival gets 3 is bad. really bad. just like they think now that the rival getting 2 when your team gets 0 is bad.

do you honestly think that teams will go from their standard defense first hockey to pressing for the winning goal with 3 minutes left in a tie game? that's absurd

The problem is that all games aren't worth the same amount of points. That screws up the standings by making some games more valuable than others, which doesn't make sense at all.

3 points for a win. 2 for a shootout win. 1 for a shootout loss. 0 for an OT loss.

Why do the games have to be worth the same amount of points? All games have 3 points on the table. You either get them or you don't. And as it is now, we already have situations where some games are worth 2 points and some are worth 3 with the OTL.

Other leagues in the world do this. It's not blasphemy. Teams with the most points at the end of the season deserve to be in the playoffs. Simple as that.

Re-read what I said and think about it some more.

Because you can't accurately rank teams against each other unless each game is the same.

I get what you are proposing. A reward for being bold and trying to win. I think it would be better for the game if teams didn't buckle down just to get a point by going to overtime.

But if each game is worth a different amount of points, like they are now, you get situations like the caps where they are 17th because they played 20 some odd games that were worth three points instead of two. In reality they are probably more like 23rd or 24th.

To be able to fairly rank teams against each other they all have to be able to earn the same number of points.

That's an opinion. It's not fact that "ranking" based on a set number of available points is necessary for any reason. It's arbitrary.

Every team is competing for the same number of possible points. The eight teams who get the most of those points by the end of the year go on to the post-season.

That's a 100% fair assessment/ranking.

Through the first 41 games of the year, of those who played predominantly on the first or second line — Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Marcus Johansson, Troy Brouwer and Brooks Laich – Ovechkin had more even strength goals (19) than the other four combined (18).

From the above top6 article:

This year more than others, many opponents decided to stop trying to counteract Ovechkin with a checking line and instead put their own offensive firepower out against Washington’s offensive dynamo. That created problems that were compounded by the team’s defensive overall shortcomings, as Ovechkin and his line have never been designed to handle prolonged stretches playing in their own zone working to get the puck back.

Well there's a concept...if 2/3 of your top line are not much of a threat to score, and don't play defense, then other teams can just play their top lines and score on you. But what does Oates do? Put together a better top line with the various UFAs and prospects he's been given, like Kuz? No, not until the very end of the season, and only by moving his 2C to left wing.

MJ90 can't be on this team. Backstrom, if he's on the top line, has to play at least enough defense to not be a pushover, and to shoot more. Ovie needs to be on the LW. A legit top liner who is even a minimal scoring threat and can play some defense needs to be on the RW.

It's amazing how badly this roster has been managed.

Whats amazing is how obvious the errors are. It doesn't take a hockey genius to get a hockey roster close. 9/10 nights the lines would have been better if they let the fans vote on it.

What confidence do we have in Ted to find an adequate replacement for GMGM?

George needs to go, but he isn't the worst active GM out there.
