Carolina Hurricanes are going to surprise many people

As a neutral fan I got so much second hand frustration watching these guys play last year. Outside of the Islanders game I haven't felt that at all

It was an ugly game, but the Canes of the past would have easily lost that game. To continually come back in that game, that's something they've lacked over the last few years.

Calvin DeHaan was an underrated pickup too, I felt.

Goaltending was embarrassing and no one was interested in playing defense.

The kids are bringing speed and life into that team.

Aho, Svec, TT, Necas on offense will make Carolina fun team to watch for a long time.

Add Foegele to the list. As I said earlier, he makes good things happen.

Simply being capable of scoring 8 goals is a quantum leap forward.

Brind'amour doesn't look like he's holding this group to a rigid expectation that they're going to show up and be super-serious about winning the right way. It probably won't get them past the league's better teams or playoff type environments, but it does showcase their talent and gives them an opportunity to win in a variety of ways.
