[Carlo Colaiacovo] I hope this is a wake up call for change in the NHL. Fans are losing interest. No rivalries; lacking storylines; more buzz around t

Because of the cap, Winnipeg is a top 10 team. With no cap, they would be forever bottom 10.
Because of drafting Winnipeg is top 10. And they still lost people, namely Kane and Trouba for the same reasons as they would with no cap.

Again, so many guys have Winnpieg on NTC, that's the real issue.

T-Mobile giving away the MLS Apple TV pass for free next Tuesday. Meaning you can watch every single game for free.

They also do it for MLB where you can watch every out of market game.

Why is there nothing like this for hockey? (in market or out). Say what you want about MLS but they will be getting a lot more national eyes on their product.

The league mandated game management makes me so frustrated. If they simply called penalties consistently instead of seemingly having a different rulebook for each team and sometimes each player, it would make the game so much better.

The digital ads are terribly distracting and could have been handled so much better. Keep the same ads up for a period and have no moving ads.

And then there is betting. Like alcohol and cigarettes I hope gambling ads are stopped. It can be addictive and ruin lives.
Even with Vegas in the league, ads on jerseys now, helmets, Grambling, game management, shitty refs, zero rivalries. Etc. Etc. The NHL had sold its soul. That is what truly is missing.

Well if you want to market a star player to Americans it would probably help if he didn’t play in Edmonton. If McDavid played for say LA, NYR, Chicago etc he’d be more well known here.
It’s not that simple. The NBA plays 82 games also. The measure for statistical excellence is on a per game basis. LeBron might have missed 10 games but his ppg is still 31.0 PPG. So he wins the scoring title. Canadians are all about counting stats when it comes to the NHL. Canadians view hockey the way Americans view baseball. But the NHLseason aligns more with the NBA for Americans.

The other thing about Americans is the value placed on a player impacting winning. Players with good stats who don’t impact winning are like empty calories or paper tigers.
