Me too. They're pretty well coached. Did they find some way to shut Semin down? All I heard was he had a couple of good shots. Can someone fill us in?

He played more of a defensive game, Tlusty decided to take his place on the line to create offense and Semin went to D mode.

He played great and had a couple good chances.

I really like how Tlusty has transformed his game since he's been here. Great example of a guy who embraced a role and just ran with it. Even putting aside the last couple of games' worth of hot streak, he's become a perfectly adequate first-line glue guy and I don't think anyone ever saw that coming until he landed here.

Yeah, they are always 100% honest about those things. I thought we had reached the point where upper body was "concussion" and everything else was "lower body". :D

I didn't see his reaction...I have no idea.

Concussions are one where you have a decent idea, since they're required to do the testing these days. Upper body is usually shoulder or hand. Lower body could be anything, from a broken foot to a pulled groin to a wrenched knee.

I agree. He's doing all the little things to help make that line successful, even when he's not scoring. Strong forechecking, good defense, driving to the net, etc.. Good to see him get rewarded for that type of work with some scoring recently as well.

Bowman is now the only regular top 9 forward without a goal this season. Seems to be getting 4th line minutes the last 2 games as well (10:01 against NYI, 7:06 against NJD). LaRose also played very little last night.

Interesting. I've been pretty happy with Bowman's play... hadn't even noticed that he is still without a goal.

Of course, with Jokinen and LaRose scoring in the past 2 games, our third line is just starting to get onto the scoresheet, so it's been a group problem.

You people have it easy with all of this celebrating and cheerleading.

I've got to follow this up with the Valentine's Day GDT against Toronto. I've got to bring the same magic as the cartoon portraits and today's Bad Dudes. :help:

You're whining (I know it's tongue in cheek) because you have to compose a GDT for a game played on Valentine's Day, when the team is coming home from a road trip where they went 4-1-1.

The GDT nearly writes itself. Seriously.

I'd be curious to know exactly how much of that is due to the third line starting in the defensive zone, seeing as how Jokinen is by far the team's best faceoff guy. I suspect it's at least a contributing factor.

Honestly though, the third line is a checking line at this point and if you get a little offense it's a bonus. This is starting to set up like a late 80s/early 90s team before having 4 forward lines came in vogue. I wouldn't be surprised if they started dressing 11 forwards, 7 defensemen soon. That would at least give you the ability to swap out whoever of Sanguinetti/Corvo/McBain is playing crappy.

I bet you're right. One thing I've noticed about Muller is that he seems to deploy the lines based on faceoff location more than anything. Without looking at the numbers, I'd think the zone-starts are dramatically skewed between the top-6 and bottom-6.

Is there a version of that bubble chart that shows quality of competition, offensive zone starts, etc.. available for games to date in 2013? That would show it.

Also, it would be interesting to look at Tlusty's numbers of just the games he played on Staal's line (part way through last year and after 2-3 games this year).

#Canes GM Jim Rutherford says Joni Pitkanen is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Mike Maniscalco ‏@mikemaniscalco
@johnforslund just informed us that Joni Pitkanen is day to day with a 'lower body' concern, but it is not related to any previous injury.

It was a very easy GDT to do, thanks to 1.) Toronto, 2.) Valentine's Day, and 3.) Toronto.

Just finished the game on DVR, anybody else catch Tripp dropping the F bomb when detailing the Harrison/Dwyer goal replay?

Do tell.

Also, good news about Pitkanen. He's our best defenseman, and he's actually looked like it this season. God knows we need him out there.
