breaking news: carey price doing exactly what he is paid to do

Nobody is paid to be this good. Carey Price is simply unbelievable. You are paid to go .915-.920 and keep your team in the game. Price just flat out steals games more than any other goalie.

It was obvious he had some beef with Therrien and no longer bought his system/philosophy. Body language is not the same.

Julien preaches and coaches a strong defensive system and forward accountability and backcheck. It also emphasizes maintaining shots to the outside.

Now pair that with one of the best goalies in the world and you can see why many Bruins fans were pissed that they may have saved the Canadiens season by allowing them to talk to and sign Julien.

Perfect fit.

Price has had an amazing 5v5 save percentage all season long. The thing Julien fixed the most that's night and day is our PK. It was so bad with Therrien that it felt like every time we took a penalty, it was in our net. Claude has completely cleaned that up.

It was kind of obvious that he was not playing to win near the end with Therrien. He got the coach out, now he is happy like the rest of the team. He's only back to normal.

But he only has the second best stats?

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. Even the Habs fans are tired of hearing that line. I know I am. :shakehead

Price is great, which is why it makes it just that much more annoying when the Montreal media put him up as a god, just like they did with EVERY goaltender who played well in Montreal. *cough* Theodore, Halak, etc. *cough* When it comes to the Montreal media, the team always wins because of the goalie.

Can't we just be happy to have a great goaltender and not have to put him on a pedestal?

So he decides to turn it on with a few games left in the season, great...meanwhile guys like Holtby, Bobrovsky, Dubknyk have been playing hard all season

Nah, Price was great for the first half of the year too. What will cost him a lot of votes for the Vezina will be the stretch of 20-25 games where he was subpar and his team was playing like crap. *cough* Thanks Therrien! *cough*

Dubnyk's falling off a cliff and his play the last while is far worse then anything seen in Montreal this year. And Holtby plays on an incredibly strong team and is still hardly above Price, if at all this season. Price had a falling out with a coach, it happens. Look at Crosby with Mike Johnston last year.

To be honest im getting tired of this backhanded criticism that holtby faces day in and day out. Its not like Holtby has the Canada defense in front of him, he is a damn good goalie, one of the few truly elite in this league. I really dont see how you can discredit a guy a with a career .937 playoff save percentage at all

And Price with his coach? How much did therrien really affect him anyway. He swept the awards with a .934 save percentage under therrien just two years ago

I don't think so. They won in ARI in OT Feb09.

Price is good but this season Bobrovsky is better.
Talbot played 70 games, Price only 60. If Price played 70 games too I doubt he would be better than Talbot. 70 is of course crazy, but still.

Yes, Holtby is definitely great too. It will be an interesting battle for the #1 goaltending spot during the 2018 Winter Olympics between Holtby and Price.

I feel like Price shouldn't have to play a coach out. He should be able to just show up at the GM's door and say fire this guy it ain't happening anymore given how important he is to the Habs

Then you don't understand the love Bergevin had for Therrien.

The dude near broke down during the press conference announcing his firing.

Not really. Price is tc's guy till he's not. Holtby is fantastic, but you don't fix what isn't broke.

On the topic of Price this season, there is no reason why he shouldn't be a finalist for the vezinas this season. Obviously it's Bob's to lose but holtby and dubnyk have been poor down the stretch.

Yes, he will start with the number 1 position, but he will have pressure from Holtby.
