Is Breese coming out of retirement? Can't see Payton taking this job when the tiny QB is coming back from a torn ACL and may miss most of 2023.
Ken Wisenhunt has the franchise record with 96 games coached. That's wild the franchise has been around a century and they've never had a coach last more than 6 seasons.
Kliff should have never gotten that extension anyways.
For a guy who has been accused of not studying the playbook and playing too many video games, not the ideal person to be offering input on the HC, but like you said, high paid QB gets input. When you pay your QB a zillion dollars, he’s part of the process whether you want him to be or not.
Your coach has to work with the QB, doesn’t matter which side of the ball the coach is on. No team has ever succeeded without there being a rapport there. So it would behoove any team hiring a coach with a QB they’re committed to to have that happen from the start. Candidates probably want that too so they know if the job is good for them, or if they should be renting a house instead of owning. For a guy who has been accused of not studying the playbook and playing too many video games, not the ideal person to be offering input on the HC, but like you said, high paid QB gets input.
And media types are really overblowing this. No one said Kyler was going to pick the coach or have a veto. The word used was input. It probably means he'll be there for part of the interview as he should. These interviews last hours and hours. And the HC candidates will also want to get the rumours cleared up with Kyler. Does he put in the time. Goes both ways. HC roles are few but one bad choice to begin your career and you don’t get another shot most of the time. But also overstaying your time in a coordinator role will hurt if the team falls a bit like it did for Leftwich in TB.And media types are really overblowing this. Jesus it's like he's Rambo in the 2nd movie.
Bidwell family have basically been terrible owners. It really is amazing that the Cards have been able to pull of such long term ineptitude, Even the Browns had a few decades where they were good to great, it almost seems like the Cards just accidentally have 2-3 winning seasons every so often and revert back to being a mess
They’ve gotten great play from QBs later in their careers from Warner and Palmer. But overal haven’t put a good enough roster together. Players will want to go there as the stadium is covered so not out in the blazing heat. Playing surface is grass which also helps.Bidwell family have basically been terrible owners.
If you're old enough to remember, their last season in St Louis, the stands looked like a USFL game. It was sad, because the Cards had gotten good thru the 70s, and weren't too bad in the early 80s (but were competing in a brutal NFC East at the time).
Like u state, they'll incidentally get good here & there. Plummer had a playoff win in the late 9os & Kurt Warner's short, but epic run.
It's kinda tragic such an 'OG' franchise has been so carelessly managed.
Yeah, I should've mentioned Carson Palmer. He played well in Arizona. They’ve gotten great play from QBs later in their careers from Warner and Palmer..
