I just can’t help but love how much of a blood and thunder/heart on your sleeve guy mrazek is

the whole scene of him getting the first star last night and the fan’s reaction and appreciation of what he’s done in this run to get us in the playoffs felt special

he’s the kind of goalie that can steal a series and I can only imagine the level of play he’s going to bring in games 3 and 4 with him feeding off of insane crowds

I still think a turning point for him was that game in early-mid January (against Ottawa I think?). He gave up a number of bad goals and HFCanes were commenting about Rod for not pulling him. Williams said after the game that Mrazek came into the dressing room after the 2nd and told the team that it's "on him". The team basically said "we got your back" and went out and held the Sens to only a couple of shots in the 3rd and won the game. Coach and team showed confidence in the guy.

From the start of the season to Jan 6 Mrazek had 18 games, went 8-8-2, with a .900 SV% and 2.69 GAA
From Jan 7th to the end of the season Mrazek had 22 games, went 15-6-1, with a .925 SV% and 2.14 GAA

I was at that game and as the second wound down I was feeling pretty good about things. After the quick goals the sens crowd got really fired up and I wanted to disappear  I thought for sure he wouldn’t be back to start the third and when he was I thought we were done but I was wrong. I like that Rod let’s the guys make some decisions themselves.

I know a lot of you guys watched last night’s broadcast, but for those who haven’t yet — it is 110% worth your time to watch the final few minutes of Forslund’s call. He ought to win some sort of Emmy for it. Literally calling the end of the Caps game AND the end of our game simultaneously, in a way he couldn’t possibly have scripted.

I’ve never seen anything quite like that on a sports broadcast, just an amazing thing to have in our franchise archive.

Please helppp me find the broadcast. I’ve been searching everywhere for the full broadcast or at least the full final 10 minutes.

Didn’t think of that. Unfortunately can’t seem to find it on there either. But I appreciate the suggestion!

How's this for poor decision-making. I was watching both games -- the Caps on the TV and the Canes on the computer -- listening to the Canes, of course. With about four minutes left, I muted John because he was about 20 seconds ahead of my feed of the Caps game and I didn't want him to spoil the end of the Caps game for me. Little did I know Johnny had me covered. I should have trusted him.

I gotta say, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the surge....I loved how much it pisses everyone hated it.

Cmon...you clinch the playoffs for the first time in ten years and no surge?!? After all that crap?

What a bunch of jerks.
I took it as them flexing. "We don't care what you expect from us. We will do what we want. When we want."

I often wonder what people think when they see my Hurricanes shirt in California.

Pretty sure 90%+ of people in Southern California dont know that hockey is a sport and theyre probably even more perplexed by my “Aho” shirt.

Definitely got some looks yesterday.

Nothing compared to the looks that I got rolling up to a chow hall on a 4 wheeler rocking a Black Ruutu jersey in Afghanistan back in 2010.

"What the hell team is that?"
"I think its that f***ing hockey team in North Carolina"
