McLellan said he doesn't know what he is doing with the captains. He said at the moment Ference has it but he won't know till training camp. If Ference is the 7th or 8th best d and the team doesn't seem to look up to him and need him as the captain, he won't be.
I really don't see them stripping Ference of the C.
I could see Ference with the C,
Nuge with an A,
Hall with an A,
and maybe Eberle or hendricks with a third A

His captaincy still smells of Eakins. I think they should go the montreal route this season and not have a captain. Tired of this team having mediocre players for captains.
I think that Ference is the 7th or 8th D and could see some time in the pressbox, that is not where a Captian needs to be.
If he is on the rooster, he should keep the C and then its Nuge or Hall taking over.

C Nuge
A Hall
A Hendricks
A Eberle /Lander

Transition year, giving the C to Hall or RNH means it becomes hard to hand it over to McDavid next year.
My money is on McDavid becoming the youngest C ever before the end of September next year (not exactly sure of the date to become the youngest, no time now but I checked it up in May/June and I seem to remember that it was mid/end sept). I am not particularly fond of that idea since I don't like young C, but it is a great PR move for the organization so unless he crashes and burns, which I highly doubt, this is exactly how it will go down (at least I have myself convinced).
So, this season no dramatic change:
C Ference, if he plays. Otherwise Hendricks or no C.

Am I crazy to think McDavid for Captain? Tbh not right away only if we don't have a captain for most of the season which we might.
Yes. It's just unnecessary. He may be ready to lead on the ice, but there's no way an 18 y/o steps in and leads in the locker room from day one, not even McDavid.

I generally like it when the A's are spread in the lineup. That helps to serve the actual function of the captaincy, which is to talk to the refs. You want to have either a C or an A on the ice most of the time.

I think McDavid has Captain potential so its interesting how this shakes out.
I see this as Halls team and he should have been captain already. But his time may have passed with McDavid now here.
Nuge is the other guy who just seems like he would be a good fit.
Do we keep Ference captain one more year and see which guy establishes himself? Especially with new coach/management this seems like a solid option.

Just curious.. why sekera? Because he has exp? Didnt we give ference the c before he even played a game for us? I didn't mind it at the time but now hate it. I think a player needs to play for a team before getting a letter. Wait and see how they gel and fit as a leader first

If I were a betting man I'd bet my house that Mcdavid gets the C to open up the new arena. That means that Ference stays captain or they go with 4 assistants.
