I would be disappointed in DW if he signs Ovechkin as a Shark. We don't need individuals.

How is Ovechkin any different than Marleau or Thornton come playoff time?

Even if Ovechkin changed his game, it wouldnt get that Caps team any closer to a Cup imo.

Ovechkin is more than a PPG in the playoffs and is actually a +9 if we wanna talk about +/- (which we shouldn't because it's a dumb stat... but anyways).

It's not his fault that the Caps have failed in the playoffs.

I should be disappointed in the Sharks effort tonight, but I'm really not. Maybe because I was kind of expecting it, but to give up two own goals is a little face-palming. I actually thought they dominated for a good portion of the game tonight and Niemi played pretty well other than two brainfarts. At least they got a point (Now three points ahead of the Ducks) and they can move on.

Do u mean the two goals or the two shootout goals? Can excuse the two goals as fluke plays, though he still had no reaction on either. The two shootout goals show how weak a goalie he really is. He falls every time. Go high or between the legs and you have him beat.

Yeah they should play Stalock and cut Niemi. He's garbage and the reason why Braun shot it off his teammate.

Um, the two regular goals. As for the shootout, you can't be serious?

We do care. As fans of the sport, watching other teams' fans have to suffer sucks pretty hard and everybody deserves the best version of their team. Although the only team that I have pretty mixed feelings about are Vancouver and Edmonton. I have a bit of schadenfreude when I think of their teams falling.

Personally, i love seeing every team that got inbetween us and a Cup failing. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, St. Louis, LA, Anaheim, Chicago - I couldn't care less if you all fell into a black hole of suck

You'd fit right in on our board! There's been a "Fire George" movement for about 3-4 years now. We'll see what Ted does if we miss the play-offs or burn out in the 1st round again and it seems like a near certainty that one of those will happen.

I agree, and appreciate your comments. I used to live in San Diego and watched the CA teams when I could. I think it's pretty cool that 3 of the top teams in the sport reside in a state not known for hockey -- it's good for the game in the US. My cousins live in San Jose and we had some fun leading up to the game last night. Great city, I got to go there for a wedding. I enjoy watching the Sharks and feel like you guys are kind of the Caps of the east (or at least when we were fun to watch) in terms of a great young corps struggling to get over the hump in the playoffs. Funny I haven't heard back from my cousins since there was about 8 minutes left in the game last night...

I feel your pain

Agreed. The only franchises I really feel sorry for is Washington, NY Islanders and Buffalo. Though I wouldnt feel too bad if St. Louis won the Cup.

I used to feel sorry for Ottawa since they were like the Sharks of the East for 10 years but I find them annoying with all their Karlsson worship and overvaluing their own players.

Well Karlsson IS awesome. And I don't know, I see Sens fans being really down on everything about their team. From the players to the coaches.

Okay, I can actually agree with that for the most part. Generally, I don't like the teams/fanbases that got pretty obnoxious about it though.

Calgary is pretty okay in my book but they seem to be in good hands so I don't feel bad for them. I do kinda feel bad for the Islanders and Capitals cuz their management is jerking them around.

Niemi is like, one of the best shootout goalies in the league.

Speak for yourself. Put him out there with Thornton and Burns and the Vlasic pairing and let him go ham on other teams.

It isn't like Ovechkin would come here for free. Is he really worth more than 9 million/year?

And on Boudreau and coaching style...yes, you cannot win the cup winning all the games 6-4. Unless you are the Oilers of the 80s, you need to be good defensively. You need to be able to win tight games.

I dont agree with him but Niemi has been really mediocre this season. I hope he's on a short leash come playoff time.

Ofc this season they changed their tune but they always defending their players like Methot, Zibanejad, Turris whenever they were in a poll.

They do admit that their team as a whole are underperforming this year.

Ovechkin costs less than Havlat and Boyle.

Here's a quickly mashed together roster of what it could maybe look like. That's way better than anything Washington has ever put around Ovechkin.

Can't roll 6 d. Probably need to move Burish or Kennedy then I think it can work and we will have a little more Space. I would rather that money go towards the top demand but there's not much available

Plus, if you decide to roll with Stalock, you can move Niemi and Burish/Kennedy and a picks to obtain/have space for a younger D man to help booster the back end.

Niemi has been mediocre compared to last season, but c'mon, .915 sv% isn't terrible.

Yeah, it's about average. I think he's 24th among league leaders in save percentage of 42 that qualify at this point. For his contract, he's performing on par. For what he put together last season and the way that they treat him, he's underperforming.

That looks like a nightmare waiting to happen. That defense would get shredded.

Not terrible but when you factor in that the Sharks are one of the least shorthanded teams in the league a .915 % is a bit concerning.
