Is this an early hot taek as a joke? Or do you really feel this way?

Do you really think Mrazek is an improvement? Hes so bad that I used to literally always bet against the Red Wings when he started.

What on this team has improved? Granted, skinner might be addition through subtraction.

So much for turning a corner after all the front office changes...

Oh cool, we're ready to burn the witch before the puck even drops. Sweet

Great. Then practice what you preached in your first post and stop following the team. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

What on this team has improved?

The defense.

Slavin hamilton
Dehaan faulk
Fleury pesce
Tvr

Is a massive improvement over

Slavin pesce
Fleury faulk
Hanifin tvr
Dahlbeck

Forwards and goalies are stagnant, which is frustrating when the forwards have two blue chip prospects making the team and the goaltending was 31st best in the League.

Pastor Bill carefully managed the bottom 4 pairs deployment last year at the expense of throwing Slavin pesce to the wolves. This year, rod can roll all 3 pairs through the entire game, not caring about matchups, and come out on top in the matchup game anyway.

That defense let's the canes roll a run n gun style, which hcrb'a plans to do.

That was totally, 100% Waddell's plan all along.

You're not wrong that there have been some facepalm moments this summer. But the Hanifin/Lindholm-for-Hamilton/Ferland/Fox trade looks like it will pay off. It didn't just make the defensive group better, but also changed the dynamics of how they operate together. We have a true #1D for the first time in... ever... and that's a big change to the lineup. There's a possibility, slim but enough to dream about, that the defense gives us enough offense to overcome what we lack in forwards. And the addition of Hamilton and CDH should do big things for our PK, which will help mitigate the goalie situation somewhat.

We're still a pretty soft group, but the addition of Ferland, Zykov, Martinook, even Svechnikov makes us tougher to play against. Having RBA as coach will also push us in that direction. Not because we're going to win fights or push people around, but there will be battles in front of the net and opponents aren't going to take their time passing the puck.

Svechnikov is the real thing. Necas looks like he might be ready too. Those are HUGE additions if they come through, potentially two top-6 talents through drafting. Even if Necas needs time to get adjusted, I am convinced that Svechnikov will be a Calder contender. He's a better hockey player than Skinner was when he won it.

I still think we'll struggle to make the playoffs, but we're close enough that it really does hinge almost entirely on the goaltending. If Darling and Mrazek go out there and embarrass themselves again, it's going to be a tough year to watch. If they can even just hang in there and not actively lose games, we've got an outside shot that this group comes together and makes a run of it.

1.) This is the best defense group we've ever had on paper (including 2006)

2.) This is the most skill we've had in our forwards since 2006

3.) Deep talent in Charlotte in all positions

If you can't get excited about this season and want to be pessimistic about our goaltending, you need to get laid more

Agreed. I think we're contending for the best 1-through-7 group in the NHL in any of the past number of years. Nashville can probably claim that title, but we're well up there.

Uhhh... not so sure about that one, though. 2007 we had five 30-goal scorers (if you count partial-season Cole's 29) and the early Staal-Skinner teams were pretty skilled too. They just had the opposite issue... no talent on defense.

3.) Deep talent in Charlotte in all positions

Except goalie ;)

Nah, we're good in net in Charlotte. Problem is that it's all YOUNG talent and very likely not NHL ready. This may be the first time anyone's ever said this in this history of following hockey but what we really need is some 25-26 year old tweener in the AHL just in case because I still think our tandem has pretty high dumpster fire potential, though again I'm hopeful with Mrazek.

Also, at least on paper, that forward group from 09-10 should have been REALLY f***ing good. I mean it wasn't... but there's no reason it shouldn't have been.

From Canes website: Both Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov will be in the lineup tonight, though they won't play on the same line. (Brind'Amour said about this idea: "I'm not sure that's the best plan for those guys.") Necas will center Warren Foegele and Teuvo Teravainen, while Svechnikov will play on the right side of Valentin Zykov and Sebastian Aho.

Lineup
McGinn-Staal-Williams
Foegele-Necas-Teravainen
Zykov-Aho-Svechnikov
Martinook-Wallmark-Di Giuseppe

Slavin-Hamilton
de Haan-Faulk
Fleury-Pesce

Mrazek
Nedeljkovic
