Would be interested in seeing an Ovie empty net opportunity statistics. What’s his +/- in those situations and how doesn’t that compare to the leagues as a whole?

I know today was Dad/Mentors trip for the caps. And was thinking about Ovie and missing his pops. Glad we played awesome today and he scored.

Yeah, to them I'm certain we're misunderstanding how difficult it was to score on those guys
It was hard to score..since the skaters played with wooden sticks, skates that felt like they had lead in their boots with inferior blades, big, stiff gloves..overall player equipment weighed 2 to 3 times more than now.

Nah, it's more like a nice diversion from that reality. Nobody denies he can't keep up, especially when the play goes the other way. But he's got a lot of offensive smarts, and he's also a guy who has more jump when he's on a roll, and it'll be interesting to see what a mini-heater at 38 does for him. My expectations aren't high, but in both 2021-22 and 2022-23 the team rode hot streaks from him.

Gretzky played mostly in a high-scoring era of "firewagon hockey" with avg goals per game in the high 3s or even 4.

Ovie played in the bulk of the "dead puck era" when the average was closer to 2.7.

This is why the NHL started shrinking goalie pads and made several other changes to the rules. They wanted the scoring restored.

Some people have tried to adjust Ovie's potential goal scoring for Wayne's era and iirc it was pretty ridiculous.

Bruins boo'd out of their building, lovely sight.

Caps exposed them badly. It was boys against men and the score was close because we can't score for shit and Swayman was really good.

Lindgren trade value rising shutout.
