Yes. The roster is flawed. The GM overpaid too many players.

How many more first round exits are acceptable? You tell me?

The players you mentioned I wouldn’t get rid of, save Carlson and Schultz, I would look to move them honestly.

Ok...which and how many of Ovechkin, Backstrom, Oshie, Wilson and Eller she he have gotten rid of?

Yup. That makes logical sense. Have a nice day now

The sad thing is, outside of Orlov and Jensen and the 4th line the whole team has been horrible. I mean how do you win when only 5 players are stepping up?

I just said I wouldn’t get rid of those guys, except for Carlson and Schultz.

I think you misunderstood.

To be clear, I would keep 8,19,77, 43, and 20.

Kuzy should absolutely go. I would try and move Dillon and Schultz. I would consider moving Carlson.

I would absolutely fire the GM. I think he tied this teams hands with some pretty bad deals: Panik, Dillon, Schultz. Even Hagelin is pretty overpaid, and over signed.

The Mantha trade appears to be a disaster.

How has the Mantha trade been a disaster?

Damn, that was hard to watch. It's exceptionally rare for me to turn a game off before the end but after two periods I couldn't stomach it anymore.

I don't think Laviolette is doing this team any favors in this series. He caught a huge break for a few games when Boston's top-6 dominated but couldn't actually put the puck in the net with consistency. There was an opportunity to make adjustments and tweak the defense. If a line outchances your team to the tune of 10-2, it doesn't matter whether they scored or not. You have to make adjustments. Laviolette stuck to his plan, his plan was shit and the team is now in a deep hole.

It's not looking good at all. And I'm talking long-term, this series is long gone. When they extended some of these guys(Oshie) we knew the contract would stink later on when their play fell off a cliff. Oshie hasn't even been sandbagging as bad as some of the other guys. It paid off in a Cup so can't complain too much but I don't think they have any ammo to keep reloading. Not like we can just trade our old vets for younger players to keep up, we'd get pennies on the dollar. I once thought Kuzy would be a stud and heir apparent to Ovi but he clearly isn't the answer. I don't know how much we'd get back for him even, everyone else in the league sees the same thing we do. Pretty soon just watching Ovi chase the goal scoring record will be our Stanley Cup.

Truely this is where being so cagey about the injuries really hurts your team rep. In the end they can come clean but then there are always some that wont believe the injury reports.

It's crazy to me the people who were in love with Chara, over the moon with Mantha vs. Vrana, and thought Dillon was playing well the last month or so are now the one's calling for GMBM's head.

GMBM has done very well for this team. I think, and thought so at the time, the Vrana trade was a huge blunder but you've got a coach who refuses to play a young player. You have to do something to swap that. That player was also due a raise and you've got your Captain going to need a pay raise next year. He paid a premium for that, but that wasn't entirely his fault. Shit, everyone thought the Panik signing was a steal when he first signed it. Thems the breaks. Sometimes shit doesn't work out.

So Mantha fined for goalie interference? Did Nick Ritchie get fined for same thing earlier in the series? I didn't see anything.

Did they give out explanation why Carlo didn't get thrown out of the game and given 10-game suspension for jumping into the ice as the 6th guy to join a scrum after Bruins goal? That’s a pretty clear-cut rule. You are either supposed to be on the or not. He was the extra man.

I wish the same rules would apply for everyone, seems like there are a lot of leeway for guys on certain jerseys.

I was more angry they didnt give instigator against Coyle (?) and Boston scored on that PP.

However, refs are clearly on Bos side. Caps need to overcome, and they had their PPs too.

What puzzles me is why the Hagelin-Dowd-Hathaway line isn’t getting much 5v5 time, given they’ve been the best line *and* are responsible for 4 of the 9 goals the Caps have scored. Hathaway is second on the team in points (3) and saw less than 10:00 total ice time last night. I’d rather see Laviolette throw Ovi or Mantha out there with Dowd and Hathaway when the top-6 aren’t getting anything done than see him rely on an ineffective top-6 and keep those guys on the bench.

Well, we brought him here to score in the playoffs. Thus far, he hasn’t scored in the playoffs.
He’s been a far greater threat to score and better driver of offense than Vrana has been the last 2 playoffs. He hasn’t finished but I like a lot of what I’ve seen from him.

When your entire team starts getting hurt simultaneously, and their nagging injuries start impacting their play to a degree that they’re not effective in their roles at all, it’s a sign that your team may be too damn old.

This is an idiotic comment that's completely disconnected from reality. These guys are playing a violent, tough sport at the highest level under difficult circumstances and a lot of their injuries are typically due to TRAUMA from impact, not age/overuse.

But I guess some people look at a guy like Vrana and think he's healthy because he's young rather than because he's a perimeter player and breakaway specialist who avoids contact.

I still don’t think this is a fair comparison, for what it’s worth. Nicholas Backstrom had 4 points in 12 playoff games between 2019 and 2020. Lars Eller had 3 in 12 appearances. Wilson had 4 in 15. Oshie 5 in 12. Dowd had 1 in 15 games, and Hathaway 0 in 8. Burakovsky and Connolly each had 2 points in 7 games. (Note: these numbers include the round robin games, I think.)

How Mantha performs under a competent coach isn’t comparable, as he never had the privilege of playing for Todd. No doubt, Vrana underperformed and was a disappointment both those years. But half the roster was, too. Reirden’s playoff teams were awful. Vrana scored 2 GWGs during the Cup run despite being a rookie. I suspect under better coaching, he’ll be a dangerous playoff threat if he ends up back on a contender. Much like Burakovsky and Grubauer in Colorado.

The “Vrana is getting a raise” defense of the trade makes zero sense. Vrana isn’t going to get more than the $5.7M that Mantha is getting. His stats don’t compare well enough to his RFA peers to earn that much.
