I'm sure every team is thinking along those lines. This doesn't change much except for the fact that we have to sign Subban asap.

Teams with an internal cap in our division aren't contending anyway other than Detroit.

Subban at 8.5
Markov at 5.75

What's the max Galchenyuk and Gallagher can ask for once their ELC is over (and their RFA's)

Eller is not going to get 4. Gionta will not be re-signed at his current contract. Bouillon may be gone, perhaps one or two others.

8.5 & 5.75 may be a tad high.

Subban could get 8.5. I think Markov will settle for 4-5 if the lenght is there.

SALARY CAP: $70,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,294,167; BONUSES: $3,329,167
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $2,705,833

This is barring no trades and giving our UFA's being brought back top dollar. We could fit it in and have 2.7mill in cap space left over.

It's not high. It's perfectly reasonable prices.

Always expect overpayment. How many times should we say it?!

A player's annual salary cannot exceed 20 percent of the salary cap, based on the cap as it stands in the year the contract is signed.:sarcasm:

Hard to believe in 1942-43 Toronto Great Syl Apps broke his leg and played 29 games and was making 6000 dollars a season approaced Conn Symth the owner with a checque of 1000 dollars because he thought he didnt deserve it.The owner did decline it.But could you see a player in todays hockey going to a owner and offering a checque of a million dollars because he sucked. It would never happen today

Montreal or Drummond
Markov is currently doing 5.75M$, the way he is playing right now, he is giving himself arguments for a raise. Only if we sign him for a 5+ years contract I could believe it will be below 6M$, but I'm not holding my breath. He may want to end his career here, but not at any cost, and the first sign of it his former agent being fired.

My 2 cents though

How can we go for a big UFA?!!

Habs are at 62.5 right now.

UFA
Gionta 5M
Parros 1M
Murray 1.5M
Bouillon 1.5M

= 53.5M

Add
~6M raise for Subban (~8.5M)
~1.5M raise for Markov (~7.5M)
~2M raise for Eller (~3.5M)

= 63M

That leave the GM with around 7M to play with.

So lets say he keep Diaz around and give him a 2M raise.

1M for a body to replace Parros
1.5 for Tinordi or Beaulieu who will replace one of Murray/Bouillon

So that leave Bergevin with about 2.5M for Gionta or someone to replace him.

yuck

Ooh that sucks because I thought we would have enough money to go after Vanek.

We would need to move Bourque and DD but that still might not be enough to get a high end free agent.

I think it would be easier in the summer to move guys like Bourque and DD to teams that need to meet the minimal in the salary cap....I believe they have some value to teams that don't spend much..... Bourque and DD aren't stars but they plug in enough points for teams with limited salary to spend.

haha maybe would could even get a decent prospect in return:sarcasm:

So much drama with cap space. Relax guys, Bergevin will be able to sign everybody and there's still gonna be some margin for trades or signings.

If we move Gorges, we will have 6,7M available?

I would rather trade Bourque and DD before Gorges...I think Gorges is always underrated. He's the type of D-man you don't notice unless he is in the offensive zone shooting pucks no where near the net...but in the d-zone he does so many little things that go unnoticed that help the team win.
I think he is a great 4th d-man that will only be missed when he not playing for the Habs. He has a good, not too expensive contract especial when the salary cap will keep going up.

I also think we have more AHL forwards that can play next year than D-man. I think Tinorde will be with us next year and maybe later this season...and what I read from ppl that follow Hamilton he might be the only one ready for NHL action next year...But that is very subjective at this point.

The team is very fortunate to have fan and corporate support, which enables them to spend to the cap every year...this is good news for the rich/cap teams...

I would rather keep Gionta and find a way to get rid of Brière
