Capfriendly had a daily cap tracker that based on past years they update every five days.

Toronto Maple Leafs Daily Cap Tracker - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

We accrue 1/116th of our cap space per day and a player cap hit also decreases by 1/116th per day.

If we carry $550,259 in space per day we will accrue $4,743 per day and gain $426,925 in additional space by day 90, the trade deadline, giving us $977,184 in deadline space. [(Cap space/Total days)*Deadline day]+Cap Space=Deadline Space, or in this instance [(550259/116)*90]+550259=977184

To figure out what cap hit that space can afford you work backwards (Deadline Space/Days remaining)*Total days=Cap hit, or (977184/26)*116=4359744.

Just swap the numbers to each season day and you can project what we can afford on any given day.

That's not how it works. You can't add the accrued to the total full season number as you've burned most of that full season off accruing what you accrued. It's a tough thing to word but the actually calculation is much simplier.

Deadline Cap = Full Season Cap*(116/26) = $550,259*(116/26) = $2,455,002 which is where CapFriendly gets that number from.

Essentially you're roughly 3/4 your way through the season so you can acquire roughly 4 times the cap hit.

Basically if you don't change the roster you still have all $550,259 of that space left at the deadline. $426,925 of it you accrued daily, and the rest is the stuff that would be space for the final 26 days. A player who makes 2,455,002 million would only be paid 26/116 of that by you, which is exactly equal the space you've got. By adding the accrued to the total you're double counting the 426k, which when multiplied by 116/26 leaves you about 1.9 million too much.

If you can't pay the rent with $600 a day then I don't know how are people paying rent with making only $150 a day?!!

Most will be fine, it's the cases like Hollowell that suck. It appears he'll either get 28k or 51k before taxes, that's pretty brutal if you rented based on a 70k salary. He'd almost make that much after escrow and deferral with one or two weeks on the Leafs, so I expect he gets a callup at some point.

Robertson on LTIR

Lehtonen to taxi squad

Brooks and Andersen on roster

Jumbo Joe still on roster

Without looking too closely I'd say that swapping Lehtonen @ ~925 for Brooks+ Anderson ~1.45 combined put us as close to the cap as possible so that when we LTIRed Robertson we'd get us much space as possible.

We actually have 820k of Robertson LTIR still unused, so Brooks/Anderson might have just been a math thing and we could see Engvall and Barabanov up to replace them tomorrow

Could we lose Brooks to waivers if we did that? My guess is they only brought him up if they were gonna give him a shot? But I dont know ...

Its time for Pridham to earn that paycheque.

But unfortunately this is how seasons go with injuries, which makes gaining that capspace more difficult for the tdl

so then we can have 22 guys on our roster or still 21? assuming a new guy at 700k? also when he comes off do we start getting cap space back?

Can have 22 players on the roster if those callups are less then roughly $1.596m combined. So if Lehtonen, Engvall or Barabanov are recalled it’s 21 max.

note, this is assuming Thornton will be LTIR eligible. If not then 21 max.

Two contracts worth $1.475 up -- Brooks and Anderson -- one contract worth $0.925 down -- Lehtonen -- and Robertson now on LTIR.

Whats next?

Is there a path to rotate players in and out and call up Barabanov and Lehtonen?

I hear they have escape clauses to go home to the KHL if they aren't on the NHL side of their one-way contracts -- and from the sounds of it at least Lehtonen wants to be paid.

So when Thornton and Robertson are activated from LTIR i think it will jump our cap space up significantly. Anyone know how thats calculated?
