If Benning was in a room by himself, he still wouldn't be the smartest guy in the room.

Benning has said in the past that if a rookie at training camp earns his job and outplays a veteran that he would make room for that player and trade the veteran. Time for him to put up or shut up now. Was it just lip service? Or was he being sincere with those comments?

Did anyone else catch the between period interview of Benning by Murphy? Lots of hot air and a long bit on how talented offensively and what a great two way game Linden vey plays.

Either Benning is literally the worst evaluator of pro talent in the game, or he is finally trying to pump the tires of a guy he wants to trade so he only had to give away Vey and a 3rd round pick for a 32 year old AHL vet.

Well, I think we know the answer.

If this was the case, Vey, Prust and Sbisa would all have lost jobs, and Baertschi and Corrado wouldn't be getting jobs that they were expected to fill coming in. And Miller wouldn't be starting.

At least 5 of those 6 guys will be on the roster, guaranteed.

Since it is likely lip service, the only saving grace is these little PR stunts are going to backfire spectacularly. Benning and Linden have little idea just how fickle and unrelenting brutal Vancouver can be if the team performs poorly. I dare say we're worse in some aspects than Toronto or Montreal, if for no other reason than this fanbase won't support a bad team financially for very long.

Every single one of Jimbos evaluations has been wrong outside Bartowski, only thing he gets right about players is "shoots hard"

He also told Bob this is a 100 point playoff team that's harder to play against. Who needs goals when your hard to play against

This is true, at least for me. One of the things that bug me most, is that I have pretty much given up on my plans to make another trip to Vancouver this season. I just couldnt take to fly 8,000km to watch the games in the "quality" I expect this season. Its just not worth the money.

It really is astonishing how bad his pro scouting has been.

Miller, Prust, Sbisa, and Vey are $13 million worth of replacement-level junk that could be upgraded on by signing 4 AHLers/journeymen to the league minimum.

If those 4 players - all of whom Benning has specifically targeted in the last year at substantial cost - all suffered season-ending injuries tomorrow, the team would actually improve.

That anyone could defend this administration completely boggles my mind.

I think it's fair to say Linden has some idea.

Sadly, it really isn't. On the brighter side of things, McCann, Hutton and Gaunce make it look as though our prospect core isn't quite as dreary as many of us thought. Subban looks like he may just be another gem. Imagine if PK's comments about him being better turned out true?

Reading that i just remembered that last year there were some rumors Benning was heavily targetting Dave Bolland. Imagine he had signed him instead of Vrbata.

Evidently not. He seemed completely mystified people are still criticising the team and calling foul on Benning and Delorme despite the 101 point finish. Linden played when he was arguably the only bright spot on the entire roster, and was hailed as a hero because of it. Now he's having to face the fanbase from the management side of things. That is a very different beast.

Fair point. I'm sure it's less enjoyable to be a maligned suit than it is to be a beloved and petted local hero. Still, he's been around this town for a long time and watched a portion of the fanbase twice try to burn the place down when they didn't get what they want. You'd think he'd have at least some idea that people here can be a tad... negative.

Not that I blame us! Remember when the team's management and players used to talk all the time about the Stanley Cup? I miss those days.

I'm greatly annonyed that not only is Jim Benning stupid but he has absolutely no patience. Mike Gillis was painfully patient, you'd wait for months for him to do something. Then he'd usually commit to a great deal. Stupid Benning couldn't wait to see what he had in training camp so he stacked the roster with a bunch of crap that is now pushing prospects who are ready down the depth chart. Everything this guy does aside from draft Jared McCann annoys me.

I've seen fans defend his "This is a 100 point team" as just saying what he has to say to the media, it's baffling.

Prusts a good skater, top flight goalies play until 40, Sutters a gritty foundational faceoff specialist, Sbisa top 4, Vey future top 6,filling a generational gap, it goes on and on.

I remember after the Bonino trade regarding Clendening and Corrado he said "we didn't want to have 2 young D-men not playing in the 7/8 holes." So why not keep the younger guy that's busy developing well in Europe and not have to worry about it. Just utter incompetence since day 1

What's wrong with Bolland? He skates real fast, shoots the puck hard and competes real good. Pretty sure that's the very definition of a foundational player.

The jury is still out on Bartkowski. Very good chance that we see exactly why he was in the press box for a large chunk of the year. Now he might still be in the lineup but that's as a consequence of how poor the depth is and how Benning will not along his pickups to be scratched.
