It’s getting tight. Can’t believe how different the west is from the east lol.
I only just took a look now at the standings. The east is settled other than seeding. The west is a real battle where the Canucks are very much in the hunt. Division-heavy schedules, especially at the end of the season here, could have a real payoff in terms of meaningful games and the development of rivalries.

The east just has more definition of good and bad teams.
The west has more stuck in the mushy middle, teams on the decline, teams on the rise, teams rebuilding and re-tooling so more teams are close in points.
Pretty sure the travel in the west is worse too, but meh.

In the hunt. 30 games ago they were in the hunt. 10 games ago they were in the hunt.

For all that they won the game and got two points, they are still behind with time rapidly running out and a goalie that is grinding down with games accelerating in frequency and meaning.

Winnipeg now has a more favorable schedule

We all know how this is likely going to end, with the Canucks simply running out of games. But regardless of the outcome, this season is a 'success' as far as I'm concerned.

They willed themselves back into the playoff hunt right to the end, despite one of the most horrendous starts in team history. But more importantly, the owner brought the hammer down on management and coaching. The franchise has a fresh start, which it desperately needed.

For the first time in eight years, Canuck fans can actually look forward to an off-season with some legitimate optimism.

Agreed! So excited about the future of this team!

Bo Horvat on a trajectory to hit a career high in goals (30)....After a slow start coming out of his extended covid protocol, he has turned it up a notch...

Interesting, that the guy who was drafted 3 spots ahead of him in 2013 (Monahan) is in danger of being a healthy scratch.

I've come to the conclusion that Bo has another gear when he wants to. He's definitely turned it up a notch here lately. Excited to see what he might do should we make the playoffs.........

He’s always been better than Monahan but Monahan is just broken now. Too many injuries/surgeries. He plays like a 35 year old these days.

The wear and tear of a power forward.
He cashed in at the right time .
His current deal took effect when he was 28 years old. At the time there were arguments that he was the best left winger in the game. He also plays center.

J.T. Miller is considered an elite left winger and he also plays center. He will be 30 years old when he plays his first game under his next contract.

Benn threw his body around so much, wear and tear.

Does Miller really ever rely on his footspeed? It's good but is it top tier? He has good agility, edgework, and hands - especially down-low. He has good defensive acumen. But he isn't the most violent forechecker and he isn't all footspeed (thinking about how effective a player like Paul Byron would be if he lost his speed vs. a player like Miller).
I'm mostly concerned that the taxes for an American playing in Canada are so bad that Miller will have to return to an American team if he REALLY wants to cash in. $8-9m in Nashville is like $10-11m in Vancouver.
