Demko is emerging into a top 10 goaltender, soon to be top 5.

You can harp on Benning all you want but his fingerprints are going to be on this team for another decade regardless of who is the GM. You don't trade a core of Pettersson, Hughes, Horvat, Miller, Schmidt, Demko, Hoglander, Podkolzin when they are/yet to be in their prime.

It wasnt because we couldn't afford him.
yep. Trading Markstrom last year would have totally crushed the teams' morale. Then in the offseason, Markstrom was demanding a NTC, and whether we trade Demko or lose him to the ED, we still get stuck with the aging goalie whose game falls off right when the team should be at its peak. Cap problems and the ED were the real issues, but the decision made during the offseason was absolutely the right call.

That game was right up there with that Carolina game where Marky made like 53 saves. What an absolute stinker. Just livid at that effort. I cannot wait until Sutter and Louie are no longer under contract.
Having said that, Thatcher is looking like a franchise goaltender. If he can steal some wins until Petey gets back, who knows. But that just reminds me that the team is flirting with letting our lord and saviour Ian Clark go to another team. I hate Aquaman so much.

Completely forgot Beagle and Roussel were out. A combined 6 mil.

Their replacements Jayce Hawlerwhatever and Marc GermanMichaels make a combined 1.5mil skating around like Roussel does.

If this team continues with Benning and Aquilini as GMs....you at least hope they see that.

Imagine if we played this game in front of Holtby.

Seriously though Holtby needs to come in and give this team a big game. He’s just watched Demko stand on his head for a few games. It’s your turn.

There's still people @Get North who believe you need to pay $3MM for garbage veterans to suck.

It's disappointing. Even a shitty Linden Vey 2.0 like Michaelis makes no difference to the canucks instead of a guy like Beagle. Hawyrluk is better than Roussel. Bailey and MacEwen are pretty good options as well.

Those three and Motte are good enough fourth line wingers and the four of them combined are barely more expensive than one Roussel - lol

And to think of all the hand-wringing over Benning not re-signing Markstrom....

People keep saying this, but their wasn't that much hand-wringing maybe in hindsight when both goalies and team were being ass

Stop putting things in people's mouth.

People were generally upset (though again this was tied to how free agency was handled) that instead of allocating Markstrom's money elsewhere we signed Holtby to a slightly lower cap hit, albeit shorter term. If they truly believed in Demko why sign a declining goalie to starter money?

Their was also the mixed messages sent to the core about competing and letting 2 huge team leaders leave.

I thought we would sign 2/3 of our free agents and we ended up with 0. If their was any hand-wringing it was over that, not to mention the fact all of them felt disrespected by the organization because we were chasing the albatross that is OEL

Yeah, let's stop with acting like management knew Demko was going to be bubble demko over a sustained period after they went out and paid a veteran goalie $4.7MM to insulate and mentor a guy the weren't sure was ready and had Holtby as the 1A to start the season LOL.

When both goalies were being ass, there was plenty of moaning about we should have re-signed Markstrom over Demko..The flip flopping still continues .

Demko has never played a full NHL season as a #1..they were not just going to throw him in the deep end (in a condensed schedule)...Thats probably a good way to ruin his confidence....Thats why they got Holtby.

Fortunately,It's good for the team, that Demko has taken the reins, and is able to handle the load.

Well, that wasn't pretty. The Sens are very dangerous on offense (second-most expected goals for in the league) with a surprisingly deep forward group with a lot of good young players. They also allow the second most expected goals against (guess who is first). A very high event team and if they get a couple more top 4 defencemen and some goaltending they might actually be quite good really soon. Like the Canucks I think a bad start to the season with a packed early schedule sunk them and made them seem perhaps worse than they are.

Maybe this isn't a hot streak and just Demko's new level... Just kidding, sort of. His positioning, efficiency of movement, and read of the game seem completely on point and repeatable.

Not a lot of good to say about most of the Canucks.

Horvat looked like his wheels were going.

Virtanen made a couple of bad turnovers but also did an awful lot of good things.

Miller was awful for most of the game and then just does one good thing at the end.

Myers was good again, that's about 3 or 4 good games in the last 5 which must be a record of consistency for him. He just seems like the master of playing one good game and then one bad game which is why he is not worth $6m. It perhaps shouldn't come as a surprise though as his QOC has taken a dip as the other pairing's are doing the heavy lifting.

Well people were less upset from losing Markstrom per se and more that 1) management had created a situation in which Markstrom had to go (ie salary capped out, with shit contracts) and 2) knowing this let Markstrom go without any return (ie poor assets maangement).
