Is there a cap-related reason to do so? As in, we wouldn't be cap compliant if carried all 3 goalies and with Halak holding an NMC, we had no choice?

There might be roster limit issues but then you either waive a useless lump like Hunt or you just keep playing Demko until you have a better solution.

Giving away $1.5 million in cap space when you could be playing a guy 10 years younger who was red-hot is just ridiculous.

I'm not upset, by why not start Spencer Martin? This an issue of not being able to put Halak on the taxi squad?

He was sent down to Abbotsford. They actually don't have any goalies on their taxi squad currently.

Demko will need a rest sooner or later. No sense burning him out over a "meh" season.
The poison pill, another bad contract to hurt the future.
Maybe Halak will waive his NTC or NMC if he gets another game in and the right team wants him. Maybe JR will have to sweeten the deal with a prospect, pick or a package deal. Maybe something like Motte and Halak to ?

So do they slay the dragon again? Still? I am sure we will hear something along those lines during the game.

The game should be quick and maybe a few Canucks auditioning for teams.
I feel for Bruce, just not enough on this group, all he can do is try to keep it close and get lucky with the special teams.

Chicago at home so they win?

Could be a couple reasons both could be wrong:

1 showcasing Halak
2 hit the 10 game mark and theres a trade in place that Alvin/JR have ready to make that they feel is better than a pre bonus trade

Playing Halak is so, so, so, so freaking dumb.

The only reason he should be playing is if there is if we get an asset for him once he plays 10 games. Halak getting his bonuses and not being traded would be just awful.

1.5M while shedding cap and adding assets, likely for that same 1.5M, doesn't matter.
Certainly not extremely dumb, especially when that player needs to play to get scouted.
It's game forty something, demko can't play them all.

Canucks need a bounce back game , and a win here..especially after that fugly game on Saturday night...The top 6 players have to produce (last game ..Garland,EP,Boeser,Horvat all had quiet games).

I'm assuming Halak starts tonight or tomorrow..They wont have the luck of catching Nashville on a second half of a B2B like they did last time..The Canucks will be the tired team, with a Nashville squad waiting for them..Thats why a win is important tonight.

Halak’s next start (if he gets one) will tell us a lot about how serious JR will be in “freeing cap space”. If we take the $1.5m hit, that’s be just stupid.

Could be posturing, which I think it is. Brings the need for teams and Halak to make a decision to the forefront.

They’ve been saying and the media has been reporting that clearing capspace is their biggest target right now.

Halak is like the easiest guy to offload considering he’s a backup with no tenure in VAN and we have a guy who outplayed him as 3rd string.

If we don’t trade him, I’m going to assume the offers were all a 5th and lower or simply just Halak wasn’t willing to waive.
