Yea who the hell names their farm team the same as their main franchise?

I mean, the fact that teams do it doesn't necessarily mean it's a) a good financial idea for this team or b) what the fans actually wanted.

It obviously doesn't matter too much in terms of actual results, but it feels - yet again - like an ownership/management group out-of-touch with what their fanbase wants. I don't think anyone was clamouring for these boring jerseys with a recycled name and a recycled crap-ass logo from 1960 which duplicates (in a much worse fashion) what the Giants are doing just down the road.

As an aside, that Iowa Wild use of the Minnesota logo might be the worst thing ever - trees and lakes to represent an area that is basically a massive corn field. It would be like a Vancouver franchise using a palm tree as part of their logo.

Don't really care about the name. Jerseys are 'meh.' Benning in a jersey is lol.

Feels like nothing will reach the highs of the Manitoba Moose jerseys.

I also feel like AHL franchises tend to tweak and modify their jerseys a lot from year to year. They definitely seem to have a longer leash in terms of finding their identity than pro teams do.

Yea but those teams are using exact clones of the parent teams jerseys. And the Reign and Barracuda are both names related to their parents. Hell the Reign use L.A.s old logo just with Reign written in it instead of Kings. Not exactly creative.
The striping or design of the uniforms often mirrors the nhl club if the A team doesn’t have a long history like Hershey, Rochester, Grand Rapids, etc.
SJ had to go with a different name because they both play out of the same arena so definitely don’t want to confuse fans about who is playing that night.

Reign, not exactly an easy one to design a logo for. Used to be Manchester Monarchs that was a lion head.

did the Vancouver Giants adopt a color scheme similar to what the Senators used to have when they had that gold color and big numbers?

Almost forgot - not the first time we’ve named our farm team after the parent club, and also not the first time we’ve not looked very far for a logo;

Remember when I said this wasn't evidence for incompetence? That's before they set a deadline and then missed it.

Also how hard is it to have Johnny Canuck flying an airplane? Or at least an aviation-themed shoulder patch?

There was never any association official or otherwise between the Canucks and aviation. Why do people insist on this with the JC logo now? Some guy from Buffalo made a mediocre concept that was a total stretch and suddenly people on the internet now have this connection.

The whole point of using the Johnny Canuck skating logo is to look back at the origins of the franchise. If it's not a skating lumberjack it's not the same thing. Either embrace it or do something entirely different.

Granted the Canucks modern version is pretty awful. It's not visually appealing or an accurate but at least it has some historical connection.

Meh...

It's a nice logo with a history, and it's not that uncommon for the AHL affiliate to have the same name as the parent club.

The problem is you can basically never refer to the AHL team by its name alone. "Canucks' prospect --- ----- was called up to the Canucks"-was he called up to the NHL? Or was he a prospect in the ECHL called up to the AHL? "The Canucks play the Bruins on Saturday"-ok, if you're not talking about the NHL clubs you are just confusing everybody.

"Canucks prospect called up from Abbotsford" works fine. Would make less sense if they said the prospect was called up from the Comets. The players are Comets. The location of the farm team is where the players are called up.

Abbotsford just needs decent looking uniforms. I think most people agree it was a bunt at best.

When you're referencing the farm team, you say AbbyNucks. Easy.

Yes it works fine: it just means that the team name is rarely used at all, and when it is has to be used alongside "Abbotsford" to avoid confusion.

BTW it was common when the farm team was the Manitoba Moose to say "--- ----was called up from the Moose" or "--- ---- was sent down to the Moose for a conditioning stint". Of course "Manitoba Moose" or "Manitoba" were also used.

For some reason it was much more common to refer to "Utica" instead of the "Comets" alone.
