Duncan
It was a fairly inexpensive bottle; looked good but it always makes my hair 'come up short'..

It looks good on the surface, and then time dries it...it falls, fails, and needs hair viagra, and it smells a bit. ;)

Sounds head and shoulders above the average products.

sorry

Lost in subtexting. Well, another game another addition to some deeper meaning.

I prefer, 'gained in subtexting'...

But back to the game; hated the extra point, and loved the effort from a few lines.

Canucks deserved to win so there's that. But with the playoffs no where in any kind of realistic sight, these points are only draft lottery killers. I know that is a constant theme but how else can you see the situation. Be a lot better for Canuck fans if the team just went out and blew out the other team rather than tease you that we are going to lose and then snatch that hope away with comebacks. I know the irony is huge but that is, again, where we are

The Good

Tanev - broke up so many plays around the net. Without him there is no chance for the comeback tie. Right now, with Horvat, the best player on the team.

Boucher - has some nice attributes. Deft with the stick to maneuver puck in traffic, quick accurate shot, good burst of speed, ability to find space and seemingly a nose for the net. Shows potential to score but will need to be with talent. Should be tried with the Sedins IMO. He might be better than Granlund at least in a wing position. Glad Boucher is getting the full look

Baertschi - had some nice jump. Work ethic remains excellent.

Sutter - game in, game out he is putting in a good effort. Shows high level speed and shows it going on attack or getting back in his end. A character player. Season he is having (after a so-so start) is making contract look more acceptable.

Stecher. there are times, in his own end, when you can see the long season wearing on him. But you always a want the puck on his stick b/c he is so smart with it. Probably the one player on the team that can get you most excited with the puck. Loaded up that late shot well and really drove it home.

The Not So Good

Chaput - after a good run fell off in this game. Weakest player on his line and just not there to take adavantage of some of the good body work of Biega and Cramarossa.

Granlund - got off a couple of shots but was mostly MIA. Weak in his own end.

Gaunce - consistently getting the puck knocked off his stick and not able to complete a pass. Looked clumsy at times. People seems to be looking for anything to praise this player for (like getting a shot on goal or forcing the play) but he is doing nothing with the puck. Lack of any offensive contribution is simply not good enough for this level. (even the little talent enforcers have some offense) Had problems with coverage in his end as well which the -2 attest to. Excuse time will soon be over for Gaunce.

Other Points

Miller was second best goalie in this game. Think you can criticize his play on Montreal OT winner and especially the third goal in this game. I see him flagging at pucks that are going off net and pulling himself to one side or the other. If he stays home in the middle of his crease rather than lurching after wide shots neither of those goals goes in. Might have won this game with Bachman in the net.

Don't know what Canucks had pre-game but this was one of their most physical efforts of the season. Surprised that the Islanders (who looked pretty docile overall) didn't have much push back.

The Islanders are team that Canucks don't want to become. Maybe good enough to creep into the playoffs (and quickly be out) or narrowly miss them and looking nothing like ever being a contender. (and say good bye to Tavares soon enough b/c of that). Deals like the one for Ladd, like our deal for Eriksson (are we missing him at all???), are big steps toward the mid-pack spin cycle and hopefully the Canucks has learned its lesson.

Agreed with Orcatown, long season is hurting Stecher.

Hopefully he adjusts as well as Hutton has in his 2nd season, Saying that Hutton has not looked exhausted in his 2nd season. I know he's played some badgames.

Watched about half the game. Totally forgot Eriksson was hurt or even on this team.

And yeah, it's garbage time. Points are only good for further killing our draft position, not that Benning would do anything with good position anyway.

What a time to be alive...

You can see Hutton coming back now, though. The confidence is starting to come again, and he's making some really good rushes.

Stecher...you can see his inexperience and small size hurting him but damn I still love his game. Even though he's a shrimp there's just something about his play that says: WINNER. The long season's been clearly wearing him down but he's still fighting. There's this edge that you see with so few guys on this team. You just pray he stays mentally tough like Horvat long enough to survive the Lindenningbrod administration and be part of a potential future winning team here.

Sutter has been a pretty huge liability for the last little while and tonight was not any different. The guy makes awful decisions with the puck and lacks the ability to compliment his wingers.

There where multiple times where clean breakouts/entries could have happened if he paid attention to his wingers. Instead he just puts his head down and starts skating without any awareness of his teammates.

For a guy who is considered a foundational piece, he's been anything but this season. Maybe it's the bum wrist but right now looks like he's straight up coasting. This probably won't happen but I'm hoping Vegas takes him off our hands.

This team is ran by morons. How is a team with this many illnesses and injuries so under prepared that they have to dress Biega on F again?

Idiots.

Dont agree with Sutter, and would replace Gaunce with Horvat. Gaunce has been doing so many things right lately Im not sure how some people dont notice. Horvat got burnt for goals today and was pretty non existant

The -2 wasn't even Gaunce' fault. First goal against was because Megna did that stupid toedrag that backfired. It was Gaunce's defensive work that forced the defenders to cough up the puck in the first place so Megna could pick it up. Instead of getting a high percentage play, Megna goes for that toedrag with everyone going up the ice.

The second goal against was Chaput's fault for not closing out on the point man quick enough to cut off the pass. Gaunce had the puck carrier covered the whole time. The defender got the shot off and got a lucky bounce off Stecher. If Chaput played a bit higher, that pass could have been a turnover.

Horvat wasn't as effective tonight but I think overall he played fine. They should keep Boucher on that line and see how they do for a while.

Sutter just doesn't do anything right now but when the Canucks are finally eliminated, he might be shutdown for the season and we could see something like Gaunce-Chaput-Goldobin.

Completely agree with your points. Sutter is sooo frustrating to watch. It's even more frustrating when the coaching staff continuously puts him on the first powerplay. It just dies on his stick every single time

Boucher has no speed. Further, it's not just that he needs to be with talent, he needs to be with players that will do the heavy lifting for him... A finisher with little else to his game.

This was not what I saw out of Gaunce this game, but I guess this will go on so long as he doesn't get any points?

haha you guys are determined to love Gaunce aren't you? Well, far be it from me to knock a Canucks fan for being a fan of a Canuck. At least it's people seeing something positive (although I must admit I can't see it myself) in a season full of things that feel negative.

Canucks came out really strong, loved their physicality in terms of hitting, but they were constantly out worked for loose pucks and gave up a ton of them too. Sven's deke and goal were great to see live and up close. (Had awesome seats) Was nice to be in the building and have the usually quiet fans loudly cheer them on in the last minutes, and have the team respond with a really nice late goal -- but yeah, at the end of the day it's sort of a foregone conclusion now that we have little hope of landing a playoff spot.

In other news: My cheese burger was very tasty. Thanks White Spot.

I can list numerous good scoring plays that came off things that Gaunce did.

1) Megna breakaway was from a great one handed pass from Gaunce.
2) The play where it looked like he got hurt. Put puck through defender, drove net, passed for a scoring chance and almost scored on rebound when he got up even though he was in pain.
3) Great backcheck to breakup a rush with his stick that led to a Sutter drive to the net going the other way.
4) Defensive play on point man that led to the rush where Megna screwed up with the toedrag.
5) Solo forecheck on boards where he knocked defender down, stole puck and passed to a wide open Daniel for a shot from the slot.

He's been making these types of plays for a while now.

Yes, clearly the reason anyone would come out in support of Gaunce's game play is because they are being Canucks fans... It could not be his play in the game... Nope. Impossible.

Yep. Theres so many things players do or could do that affect the play and outcome of a shift. All players at this level do a lot of good little things but Gaunce is one where he rarely does the wrong move. I urge people to focus only on a specific player for their entire shift and see what they do away from the puck. For example Granlund does well with the puck but without it his drive and battling leaves lots to be desired. Sedins are losing their speed and smarts defensively in their own zone. Gaunce is doing so many little things right but he is on a crappy line. Getting points is awesome but there is so much more nuance to the game. I still dont get the love for Cramarossa myself though. He is not a point producer at any level he has played and I would attribute his few from this year to being on a good team with better linemates and a coach who is on another level. The only thing he accomplishes is looking like a bull in a china shop except his hits are very weak. His one fight so far was laughable even though he got the first fist in that didnt even stun (I forget who), but he had a 4-2-1 fight card before coming here. He was a free warm body and ANA owed us a player I guess

I walked into the living room, saw Megna try to go through the legs of some defender. breakway goal the other way, tying the game 2-2

said: "oh look Willie's system gives Megna confidence to make terrible plays like that one and still get more ice time."

then I laughed at the thought of watching a Canucks game when it's coached by mcstupid

Orcatown i can get on board with a lot of what you say in your post-game wrap ups but LOL at the Sutter contract not looking bad. He plays decently defensively I don't think most would disagree. I don't think he's elite or anything but decent. But he has 4 points in his last 18 games...a sub 20 point pace over a large chunk of the year. He's on pace for his usual 30ish points. Sutter with the contract he has and the icetime he gets is the poster boy for why this team is bad.
