Didn't watch the game. But I cruised the Minnesota boards and found some discussion on Zucker's first goal here: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1981823&page=14. They added a gif. It looks like our defenseman deflected the shot high, making it a much harder angle for Ward to save. Either way, consider me in the Bleedgreen camp of you can't blame Ward for the perfect shot. That was a friggin laser either way. It'd be nice if some of our guys had that confidence right now.

If Hainsey did deflect that shot, Ward should have anticipated it :sarcasm:

I thought last night was the best game I've seen Jeff Skinner play in a very long time. If he keeps playing like that the goals will come and his season will turn around completely. He was consistently dangerous, creative, and going hard to the net. It seems like he's struggled to find space to generate offense under Peters's possession oriented system, but he was doing it last night. He had a couple of turnovers from being overly aggressive, but maybe that's not the end of the world given that someone on this team has to start forcing some offense.

So I went to Moe's today hoping that free queso would be the salve of having to watch us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I get to the register and mention that Faulk's goal meant the queso should be free...and get looked at like I was from another planet. And got charged for the queso. Should have tried my luck at Bojangles this morning instead. #theydontevenmakeyousaytheridiculoustagline

He's getting very frustrated though, which isn't going to help. He has gotten a ton of chances these last few games and they just aren't going for him for some reason. Last night he was slamming the door, banging his stick, etc. He's got to control his frustrations or its just going to make it worse.

As in how many have been deflected off him? Or how many his decision making led to?

Both. Just this year alone there's been like what 4 that have deflected off his skate. Then he made the perfect pass to a non-teammate that ended up in the net. It's got to be a few.

Did you complain? I hate when something is advertised and then the company/whoever acts like they have no clue about it.

He's got 2 even strength game winning goals and is still a -11. So that's at least 13 even strength goals against in 16 games. That's bad.

10/8 (NAS) - 1 PPGA
10/10 (DET) - 3 ESGA
10/13 (FLA) - 1 ESGA
10/16 (DET) - 1 ESGA
10/17 (WSH) - 1 PPGA
10/21 (COL) - no GA
10/23 (LAK) - 1 PPGA, 1 ESGA
10/24 (SJS) - 2 ESGA
10/27 (DET) - 1 ESGA
10/29 (NYI) - 1 PPGA
10/30 (COL) - 1 ESGA
11/1 (TBL) - 1 PPGA, 2 ESGA
11/6 (DAL) - 1 ESGA
11/7 (OTT) - 1 PPGA, 1 ESGA
11/10 (NYR) - 2 ESGA
11/12 (MIN) - 2 ESGA

Total - 6 PPGA, 18 ESGA

For those of you scoring at home, that means Hainsey has a personal GAA of 1.50, without adjustment for TOI relative to a 60-minute game.

Carolina Hurricanes goals per game: 2.00

Ron Hainsey goals-against per game: 1.50

Gamblers could make a decent game out of whether the Canes will score more than Hainsey allows.

It seems to be the Bojangles/Moes promos are only good in Wake County. There might be one or two in Durham and/or Chapel Hill that might be participants but I'm not sure.

Try doing it in a small town. I imagine the folks at the Moes you went to today at least know who the Hurricanes are.

An angry/frustrated Skinner is the best Skinner. He plays his best hockey when he's pissed off, gives him a little bit of an edge that he needs. It'll come for him, all goal scorers are streaky.

Actually guessing by where GP and I live I'm betting it was the one in Briar Creek.

That shot wasn't deflected, Cam was just off his angle and didn't have the glove speed to get it.

Look at where Cam positions his glove when he gets ready for the shot. He has it just above his left pad. The shot is released from inside the dot..so roughly 20 feet away...from the time it's released to the time it passes him is roughly two tenths of a second. It passes by him at shoulder height. Ain't no goalie gonna glove that shot.

As far as his angle goes. Draw lines from the shot to each post and complete the triangle where you want him to be depth wise. How far off is he?

Check out these videos of Schneider:

Good goalies get beat by perfectly placed shots even if they play it correctly.

Good goalies get beat by perfectly placed shots even if they play it correctly.

The key distinction is that Cam wasn't squared solidly to the shot; he was fading to the blocker side. At the time the shot was released, yes, he was probably on the correct angle or close to it. But he was moving laterally (unnecessarily), and his movement was what created the opening.

And you're right, not many goalies get that with the glove. Most NHL goalies want to get it with their shoulder or force it wide because they're not deliberately offering that corner in the first place. If they're luring someone with space on the glove side, it's presumably because they're tracking the shot and planning to raise that glove as the puck comes off the blade -- unlike Cam here, who barely flinched as the puck went by. It's obvious from his body language that he wasn't conscious of the flaw in his positioning, and he wasn't physically or mentally prepared for a shot over his glove-side shoulder.

Goalies usually don't "make" saves as much as they get in the way as best they can. So you can be in a .990 quality position, but the guy makes a 1 in a 100 shot. This is why people who use sv% over small samples should be bonked in the head.
