a) That's got not bearing on the quality of Ward's play.

b) I don't think we have a good gauge of Lack's abilities at all, considering he's only played 3.5 games spread out over more than a month.

Yes, but I don't see the relevance of that question. Are we in some sort of Stockholm Syndrome dynamic here, where we're not even allowed to think of moving on from Cam Ward anymore?

Haha...man, people are touchy over this topic....I agree Lack or other free agents have no bearing on evaluating Ward's play...I was going off on a related tangent...if you feel Ward is costing the team games, who out there is an improvement?

Seems like a relevant question to the discussion no?

Sorry, it's just that we've had the "who else is available" conversation many times in the context of NOT moving on from Ward.

Ideally, Lack gets more starts as we get deeper into the season and he proves himself worthy of at least a 1B type position next season. If that's the case, we either re-sign Ward, or sign someone like Hiller or Reimer as the other half of the platoon, or maybe even take a risk on Ned if he shows something.

If Lack falls through, we're probably looking at someone like Reimer or making an unforeseen trade. Almost every year there's a team with too many goalies which can sell one for pennies on the dollar.

Free agent doesn't matter, since I doubt PK will OK another penny being spent on this team, barring a clear shot at a playoff chance.

Ideally, we go into next season without Ward and Staal on the roster (+ possibly more), giving the team a buttload of capspace to work with. Even if PK pockets half of that, it should still provide some new faces to a team that desperately needs them

Oh I'm fine with saying that. Kinda my point really. He's the same goalie he's always been to me. He rarely loses us games. He never really stole that many for us either. He's just a solid goalie to me, more controlled and positional than athletic. You can beat him with a great shot, but not a lot of crap gets in. He keeps you in games. It's the same this year as most to me.

I think you might be on to something here, where he isn't much different at all from his young self. Take a look at Ryan Miller, is he a substantially different goaltender now than he was when he was one of the top goalies in the league? I don't think so. But the position around him, like with Ward, has gotten better.

That said, I'm going to critique he, or any goalie when they give up a goal I think they should stop. Just like I'm going to critique a forward for missing an empty net, or making that one extra pass, or Terry for getting undressed at the point by a guy playing his 3rd NHL game. These are things that happen in the game that effect the outcome. There are a myriad of reasons why these last two games should've been 4 points and not 2 and I touched on all of them as have most of the people in the discussion.

Why didn't anyone step up to Gudas at any point?

10 pages of Ward nonsense, and not one person commenting on our entire team skating off the ice after Murphy was laid out like that? I understand not taking a useless penalty, but not one of those ****ing guys even approached a Flyer after that hit. Granted it was Nash, Skinner, Steeg, and Faulk out there, but **** man, at least feign some toughness or concern for your teammate? At least it was the first time I had a "talking to" by an usher after I let go of a few adult words when it was very quiet.

In fairness, Liles did knock the offending player out for 2-4 weeks with a hit later in the game. Though I would like to see Malone in the lineup tonight, preferably for Terry.

Gudas was running around like a mad man and nobody even looked at him funny. It's a Hurricanes thing.

Exactly, it's a Canes thing. There isn't anyone on the team that would do it (whether we want them to or not). Charmin soft.

I was wondering what happened to White, couldn't see it from where I was, and of course there's no such thing as a ****ing replay at PNC.

Like I said earlier I would like a Gudas type as our no 6 over Jordan. Go around busting skulls. At least Bellemore threw some big hits. Would also be nice to have a poor man's Simmons on the 3rd line.

I feel like Jordan was more physical when he got here now he rarely hits anyone. Maybe one reason we lost so much momentum was the boys got intimidated.

The Staals are enormous and are the biggest ******* I've ever seen on the ice. Use your ****ing body.

Apparently JStaal had 5 hits in the game- I don't remember any of them. I did see Nordstrom and even Lindholm stepping into people. If either could really take that role and run with it (without getting broken in half) we may have something

Jordan throws his body around, probably more than anyone but Gerbe. Eric doesn't hit people, but he never did, so expecting him to suddenly develop that at 31 is a bit odd.

I have to question whether Peters actually wants the players to throw their weight around. McGinn barely hit anybody while he was up and that's supposedly his bread and butter.

Yeah but i want Lindros type hits. I know, it's not going to happen. Jordan could pummel guys thru the boards every single game and he just skates past them. To me, if you have the body to do it, you should.

This is something I've noticed about nearly every forward on the team. I don't want them to go for the big hit and get out of position but just skating by and sweeping the stick in the direction of the opposing player is so lazy to me.

There's a ton of opportunities to finish their checks that they just glide by. It's fundamental. If you're hitting a guy he's not beating you down the rink so if its on the forecheck you should be doing it every time.

IMO, when you draft a guy, you pretty much know if you are going to get a hitter or a glider. You aren't going to change his spots now. Not excusing it, just not surprised by it.

Oh I'm not surprised. It's just sad that they have the bodies to bang, to exert their will, create rushed passes, disrupt timing, etc. And they never do it.
