Players like Westgarth serve little purpose in today's NHL IMO. Guys who can play that role and play consistent minutes (Gleason for example) are irreplaceable.

I wish we had Ott instead of Gleason. I mean he went for Roy...Derek frwaing Roy?!? Plus, isnt Roy bound to be a UFA this year?

Prettymuch. If Kirk doesn't trust Westgarth that much then work on his skating in practice and roll out a line with say Welsh or Boychuk with Brent and Dwyer instead.

Instead we're seeing other forwards being double shifted down there when that's unnecessary.
